And welcome to another Friday, comes round so quickly doesn’t it and this week sees me still struggling a bit with hay fever, as I expect so many of you probably have as well. I just love the summer but living in the country does give me a few problems! I have been busy puppy sitting whilst Becky and Holly are away and have been trying to train them a little – we have got to”Sit” and “Wait” – a long way to go! I love them so much but have decided my life is too busy at the moment to ever have my own dog. It’s just nice having them occasionally although I think Bee and Penelope have settled in well (spoilt pups comes to mind haha).
So what have I been trying Beautywise this week? Well let’s start off with the “Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation”. In the summer we are looking for lighter foundations and most of the ones that promise all day staying power are definitely of the heavier variety, so this one is a game changer. First of all I begin by saying that this is probably not going to be a great foundation if you have dry skin, as I did find that it clung to any dry patches that I had so normal to oily is where it is probably best aimed. It’s a really runny consistency in a pump dispenser and goes on amazingly light that I didn’t think it could possibly have much coverage, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that one pump gives natural coverage and 2 pumps a medium coverage and covers redness and light discolourations. The overall feel of the foundation though is truly “Weightless”.
The only confusing factor is that it is called Luminous when in fact it comes in demi-matt finish, so I am not understanding the naming of this product. However, the great thing about Nars foundations is that they come in so many shades (I think this one has 20) so you are able to get a great colour match, and there are no parabens in this beauty. And it certainly lasted 8-10 hours so in other words, a good work day! I am thinking that my Becky will love this foundation. It’s a super high performance foundation and will certainly last a while – particularly if you found that you were happy with the one pump coverage.
When someone gives you something somehow, don’t ask me why, but I want to love it even more than if I had paid for it!! My weird thinking! Anyway I was lucky to be given a “Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Mascara” and Becky and Holly have always raved about Tarte products. I don’t think we can purchase these in the UK but I bet all my American/Canadian readers will know Tarte. Tarte is a natural and cruelty free brand from the US so I was so so happy to be trying it out. When you try each mascara you are never quite sure if you are going to be disappointed, so when I applied the product I cannot tell you how excited I was to see that it was so different from so many mascaras I have tried.
It gave me amazing length and more volume to my lashes but most of all it is so moisturising, when normally I find mascara drying and this is due to the Amazonian Clay within the formula. If you like a look that separates every lash and lengthens your lashes and on me it certainly didn’t clump then you will love this one like I do.. It’s probably a daytime look and then if you wanted to change it to an evening look I would just add a more fibrous mascara on top. I have never used a mascara this moisturising before, so I feel like it is nourishing my lashes too! The packaging is cute too in a what I think is supposed to be Bamboo-like tube. I have just looked and you can actually buy this from QVC online … Amazing… I didn’t know that. They have exclusivity for this product.
This blog is read by all ages, which I absolutely love, and this next concealer is one that I think is amazing but I probably wouldn’t wear it – that’s not to say that it isn’t a brilliant concealer, it’s just that I tend to use one that is more illuminating and this one on drier or more mature skin would be inclined to accentuate fine lines, but if that is not one of your undereye problems then give this drugstore concealer a go. It’s “Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer”and it is brilliant at covering dark circles under your eyes and redness around your nose etc.
I tried the shade 53 which is a medium and in the shop that I went into they had a lighter one and a darker one and it blends beautifully. Although the packaging is pretty basic that doesn’t bother me as at £7.99, (although I did see it online for £3.99), it shows that you don’t need to spend large amounts of money for an excellent product.
I popped into my local Sainsburys the other day and needed to buy a blusher as I had forgotten to bring the one I was using with me. I found their cute “Boutique” range, which is an on trend range, and managed to find an Apricot Blush which was exactly what I wanted. How cute is the contemporary chunky packaging?
Their choice of colours for all ages had been well thought out and I found the blush to have good pigmentation and really lovely to blend and build up if I wanted it slightly stronger. They also do eyeshadows and lip glosses so at some point I will probably try them. At £6, I can’t go wrong.
Then let’s continue our theme of Summer and look at a product that sold out within 2 weeks of it going on sale … this promised to be the first bronzer with a self tanner in it. I was already in love with the product hehe! It is “Vita Liberata Trystal Minerals Self Tanning Bronzer”. It’s an oil free Bronzing Minerals which gives you a lovely colour as a bronzer, either contoured , or used all over your face which is applied over moisturiser or foundation and then when you remove it all at night is supposed to leave you with a bit of a tan on your face.
Firstly, let’s just say that it comes with a kabuki blush which is gorgeous to buff the product all over your face, neck and décolleté, or even just a bit stronger for some contouring under your cheekbones and I love it for the gorgeous glow it gives you. Removing my make up that night I expected to see this amazing tan, and was slightly disappointed as it was very light. I think best results would be over just a moisturiser or maybe a sunscreen, so you could use this on holiday to go poolside and have that lovely bronzed look. I still love the product even though it maybe could do with leaving me a bit more tanned .
Now lastly and I am running late with this blog due to spending too much playtime with the pups … The Body Shop is having exciting changes with the look of its products and with several new ranges….. I am so happy about this as I have loved The Body Shop since it began and it is extending its lines and updating some of its packaging to look even more amazing than it is. I was lucky enough to have a sneaky look and try at some of its new products from Spa of the World and was able to try the “Polynesian Monoi Radiance Oil” over my body and then cover that with the “Japanese Camellia Cream.” Not only did my skin feel soft and silky but Becky and Holly said I smelt wonderful at breakfast. More news of that when it launches in July.
Anyway, must go. Let me know if you have tried any of these products and what you thought. You know I love to hear from you. Also, if you can stand a bit more of me please visit my channel on YouTube – Growing Old Disgracefully.
Have a great week and lots of love as always
