SOFTER, SMOOTHER SKIN WITH DOVE GO FRESH BODYWASH, BOURJOIS SHINE LIPSTICK AND THICKER HAIR FROM NIOXIN

Hello Lovelies

Back in Autumnal Nottingham this week so a bit of a change in the temperature and I totally haven’t seen the sunshine or any blue sky since we got back from our holidays. But, I love Autumn and the changing colours of the leaves, and the morning mists and the different light, and yes I have put the heating on occasionally (alright really occasionally then!).

DOVE GO FRESH POMEGRANATE AND LEMON VERBENA BODY WASH
One of the things when you have been to the gorgeous sunshine and also when you are going into the changing season is that my skin becomes drier, so it’s all about moisturising for me. This week I have been trying Dove’s Go Fresh Body Wash in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena – the one that I purchased from Boots and put in my recent haul. Apart from my eyesight being so bad at times hehe that I had thought it was Berry in scent, as I just loved the scent, Pomegranate was an interesting bonus. Anyway, it smells lovely and fruity, but it doesn’t linger so long that after the shower you can’t put your perfume on. This Body Wash claims to give you softer smoother skin after just one shower and me being the cynic that I am thought that is just not going to happen …. but I was really pleased and amazed to find that it did. I felt that I didn’t need to add my usual moisturiser afterwards. If you have really dry skin then you would probably want to, but I felt this was enough.

DOVE BODY WASH

It’s a body wash that has mild cleansing agents which remove all the dirt, but still keep the skin’s natural moisture barrier. It’s a lovely pale pink in colour and lathers really well – you almost feel as though it is cuddling your body it is so soft. I even found that areas like my elbows, knees etc were softer too. One lovely subscriber said that she also uses it when she shaves her legs as it is so moisturising and I did think it would be lovely to do this with it as well. I have always loved Dove as a brand and this doesn’t disappoint – great quality and a great price. £2.59 from Boots but sometimes they do deals on it … so I will be waiting for that and stocking up!

BOURJOIS SHINE EDITION LIPSTICK
Now matte finish lipsticks on me can perhaps not be the most flattering and when I was passing the Bourjois counter recently their Shine Lipsticks called out to me! This one comes in lovely modern packaging of a silver glossy shiny top and then a transparent shade indicator at the bottom, which I love. What’s more annoying that having several lipsticks and not being able to tell the colours until you open then up, and of course, when you do, it’s not the right one is it? So this is a great design for me.

BOURJOIS SHINE

It’s a really nourishing (mango butter) sheer balm that has shine but the pigment is stronger than a balm and it’s buildable so with 3 swipes I had some good colour on with it too.

bourjois hand shot

The colour I chose was no. 24 which is Rose xoxo but there was one there which is probably more Autumnal and that is Mauve Tabloid so that might be a purchase in the future. It feels lovely and buttery and comfortable on the lips and this shade is very much an everyday shade for me. Perhaps if your lips are quite pigmented, it wouldn’t be enough colour so you might want to go for the darker one, but there are also some great reds in the range too. On my lips it lasted about 4 hours and then I re-applied, and because it’s been so windy since I got back this is such a great lippie/balm to put on my lips to keep them hydrated. £7.99 from Boots.

NIOXIN BODYFYING FOAM
Regular readers will know that I struggle with fine hair and am always trying products to help with volume. This lovely foam from Nioxin doesn’t contain any alcohol in the formulation and so is kind to the scalp, which I am totally in favour of.

NIOXIN FOAM

I applied this to wet hair, not the scalp and really liked the fact that when I had blow dried my hair it did help with the volume and texture but still felt weightless, which again gets a tick from me. It adds dimension from inside the cuticle and also helps strengthen the hair. I would say it is definitely one of the better products for adding volume to my hair. When I looked it was £13.50 from Look Fantastic and also on Amazon.

I was going to talk about the Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Polish which I purchased before I went away as it is just such a great Autumn and Winter colour and then someone mentioned that you needed to buy the Sunset Daylight Curing Top Coat for this to fully work … so that’s a purchase for tomorrow and will be in next week’s Blog!

I love the look of it … only painted one nail at the moment though haha. Full update on that next week! ……

Lots of love to you all and have a great week.

EVE LOM’S AMAZING ICONIC CLEANSER AND SOME FOOT FITNESS TO HELP KEEP THOSE TOES STRAIGHT AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN IN YOUR GORGEOUS LABOUTINS!

Hello Lovelies

Another week and I have had the absolute pleasure of enjoying it in the Maldives and even though I am slightly mosquito bitten (my husband has no bites and I have quite a lot – must be down to my rare blood group! ) it has been an amazingly chilling time and all I can say is if you ever get the chance to go … it truly is a paradise of a place! I have loved it and for my husband and I it is a chance to enjoy some time together in the at times, crazy life, that we all lead, and for me (the girls always laugh at me) but I am someone that comes away from a holiday with something that i am going to change, or make better in my life.

I thought you would love this Maldivian sunset as it’s one of my favourite photos and i just find it so beautiful and calming to look at.

FOOT FITNESS BASTIEN GONZALEZ
Let’s get onto some beauty ladies …..I went for a pedicure at the spa here on this beautiful island and had a fabulous pedicure there in the studio of the famous podiatrist Bastien Gonzalez who counts Elle McPherson as one of his clients, and whilst I was there I showed the girl there my bunion on my right foot. This is probably from the days when I worked in London when stilettos were the order of the day, be it on the tube or just walking along the street and this was long before that sensible habit of wearing flat shoes to run for the tube and walk about the streets and then just whipping your stilettos out of your handbag for the meeting or the lunch, long before we ever succumbed to that or thought in our younger days that that was a good idea!! inevitably fuelling the foot surgeon’s bank balance in our later lives – lol … even Victoria Beckham has large bunions poor thing!.

foot fitness

Well Laboutins aren’t going away and neither are all the lovely shoes (although I can’t wear as high a heel now as I used to be able to). And I am sure I am not alone … all you lovely ladies out there who have worn stilettos and even flip flops can bring on bunions – your toes are trying to wrap round the little strap in-between the big toe and the next one – all putting pressure in the wrong places. Anyway, I digress, she showed me one of these Workouts for The Toes – a pair of soft blue gel toe dividers really is what it is and I just put some body oil on my feet to just help ease the gels onto it. The idea is that you do this for 30 mins a day and it helps all the muscles relax, circulation increases and it helps in trying to straighten them all out. (A great excuse too to sit down with that cup of tea or G & T and relax for 30 minutes!)

feet gels

I can already feel that it is stretching and helping to straighten my toes so that they feel a lot better. Hey I know it probably won’t permanently sort my bunion out (that would be a miracle), but I am hoping that it maybe might stave off a foot operation for a good while yet!! Although I got mine in the Maldives you can order them on Amazon. I have never seen them before so I am going to give them a go!!! They aren’t just for people like me – they are for everyone who spends their days on their feet, cramps them into stilettos etc.

CHARLES WORTHINGTON THICKER AND FULLER CONDITIONER
Holiday hair is always a concern and put in the mix with the fact that for me – the thicker the better and that I need all the help that I can get! So for this holiday I picked up from Boots the Charles Worthington Thicker and Fuller Conditioner. I know that there is a shampoo in the range also but I wanted to stick with my SP Colour Save Shampoo to try and keep the colour as much as possible too. This is a turbo charged conditioner containing keratin to help with hair strengthening and although some thickening shampoos can dry your hair out, I am pleased to say this one didn’t.

thicker and fuller

Smelling gorgeous, super light in texture (which I always like), yet really conditioning too I have used it all the time that i have been out here and am so pleased to say that my hair has been super silky and has had some volume, and in the humidity over here, that’s a tough thing for me to achieve and I have been abusing my hair in the salty sea snorkelling (oh how amazing that was!). At £6.99 , will I be re-purchasing? And the answer is yes.

EVE LOM CLEANSING BALM
Described by Vogue as the best cleanser in the world and created by the iconic British Facialist Eve Lom … how have I not tried this amazing balm before? I managed to get it in a lovely sample size where it comes with a good sized amount of the balm and the lovely cotton muslin cloth that comes with it. Using a pea sized amount and warming it first in my hands it literally melts away foundation and also the waterproof make up I was wearing and then I put the cloth in warm water and held it over my face to open up the pores and then gently wiped everything away and did this about three times.

eve lom cleanser

What a lush way to cleanse your face – it felt more like a treatment than a cleanse. I then just put the cloth in cold water and held that to my face after to close the pores. How did my skin feel? Amazingly smooth and soothed. The reason for this is that the cleanser balm contains aromatic plant oils which decongest the pores and it also very gently exfoliates the skin. Copied by loads but its the way it cleanses the skin and then balances it that makes the difference. This is going to be such a great cleanser for the winter months when my skin changes to being much drier. Definitely a gorgeous luxury cleanser that I am in love with .

That’s it for this week and I will be back in the cooler climate of Nottingham next week … putting my layers and probably the heating on!

Lots of Love as Always

TRILOGY’S AMAZING EVERYTHING BALM, CAUDALIE’S NIGHT INFUSION CREAM AND MAC’S VAMPLIFLY LIPGLOSS – WOW!

Hello Lovelies

This week sees me writing this from the sunbed in the Maldives and I am oh so happy (who wouldn’t be?) as I listen to the sound of the waves breaking on the shore and look up to the most amazing, relaxing scene on the horizon. But life isn’t totally perfect … if it makes you feel any better then I have just been bitten by a mosquito so I have had to get the spray out! (They seem to like my blood!) But that’s a small price to pay for being in one of the world’s most beautiful places. I am away here with my workaholic husband, as I have learnt it is one of the few places that helps him relax … even though we have wi fi here so he can still keep in touch via emails etc.

knees photo

This week I was lucky enough to attend a Charity Dinner in aid of such a good cause and I took the occasion to get suitably glammed up and used this as the subject for this week’s video on YouTube. I like to give and help local charities where I can.

Anyway let’s get onto some Beauty!

TRILOGY EVERYTHING BALM
If your skin type is dry, and even if it isn’t and you just have some dry patches in places, imagine a balm that can do so many things. Trilogy’s Everything Balm is a nourishing and protecting balm that I have tried using on my cuticles, my lips, my hands, my elbows, my feet and even underneath my eyes, in fact I have brought it away with me because it does so many things. If you had really dry skin you could also use it as a cleansing balm to remove make up etc, but my skin is combination and I have to be careful not to put something that is so moisturising on it.

trilogy

It comes in a pretty tin and is a very rich, oily solid balm with high quality natural ingredients that helps you feel good about what you are putting on your skin. After swirling your fingers around in it, it kinda melts into your skin to leave it feeling nourished with a lavender/herbally scent to it, which I don’t mind and because it doesn’t have coconut or shea butter in then it doesn’t tend to block your pores either. All in all a great product for dry, sensitive skin and one that I put in my bathroom bag to bring away but equally it could sit in my handbag when I am home for the colder winter weather that is a coming and I am also thinking of taking it skiing with me in the winter to deal with those chapped lips and help prevent windburn.. So many uses for this gorgeous little tin!!

CAUDALIE RESVERATROL LIFT NIGHT INFUSION CREAM
Night time is a gorgeous time for us to rest our bodies in anticipation of the next day, but it is also the most important time for skin repair, which is why I try most of the time (not always – depending on how exhausted I am!) to have a good night time skincare regime. Part of the ritual that I go through is putting lovely creams on for their texture and effect too. Enter Caudalie, one of my favourite French skincare brands, who have a lovely shop in Covent Garden, but is sold in Selfridges, Space NK and online of course.

caudalie night cream

Their magic ingredient Resveratrol, is allegedly one of the best things to come out of the anti-ageing market (or should I now say pro-ageing market?) in terms of fighting cell degeneration and helps to repair, re-build and hence re-sculpt our skin. I only had the sample size to try (I like to often just get samples to make up my mind if I am going to like it) and must say that I absolutely loved the creamy gorgeous texture and the way it instantly has the effect of firming and hydrating, particularly when used on my neck, jawline and cheeks and waking up to smooth soft skin in the morning, which is also helping to keep those nasty wrinkles at bay hehe…… Pretty pink packaging helps too of course! I think I have mentioned before that my aim next year is to go and stay at the Caudalie Spa near Bordeaux and enjoy some of their beautiful treatments in a beautiful place.

MAC VAMPLIFY LIPGLOSS
Get excited if you like intense lip gloss colour with shine ….. Wow!!!! To go to the Charity Dinner I wanted a strong red lip and do like shine so I went along to Mac and purchased their new Amplify Lip Gloss. I have never really got on that well with Mac Lipsticks and wondered what to expect with this lip gloss but I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Firstly the texture is creamy, quite moisturising but most of all really highly pigmented although there is a little bit of translucency so a bit of lip colour will be coming through too which is what I wanted.

vamplify

I went for the shade “Suggestive” which is an intense Blue-Red – Medium Dark Red with cool pinky undertones and loved the doe foot applicator which makes applying it in one swipe really easy and although I applied lip liner as well to help keep the shape, you could almost get away without it. I always apply lip primer too, particularly when wearing a darker colour and if you apply it slightly outside of your lipliner it helps to stop the darker colours bleeding. It certainly lasts for a few hours before I needed to re-apply, it has a slight vanilla scent (not really sure why it needs that, but it didn’t bother me) and all I can say is WOW!!!!! I think I am going to go back and purchase some in different colours as they have a large selection of colours and I hear that these are for a limited period only …(Why?) … so I want to make sure I have my stocks for the winter!!! I am definitely liking the strong lip.

Hope you like the photo of me at the Charity Dinner and if you haven’t watched the video to see how I achieved this look please have a watch on YouTube… Growing Old Disgracefully (of course!).

Lots of love and now off for a G & T (be rude not to !!!) xxx

THE HERO PRODUCT THAT AUDREY HEPBURN REQUESTED AND LOVED – PHILIP KINGSLEY ELASTICISER, VOLUME FILLER FOR THOSE EYE WRINKLES AND MY FAV MOISTURISING BASE COAT FOR NAILS

Hello Lovelies

Well Autumn is well and truly here in the UK and I am loving the colours of nature reflected in the colours of make up and packaging and window dressing. Isn’t it wonderful how we have these seasons to keep us on our toes with food, fashion, make up and oh so many things? Makes life so interesting. As a child I loved Autumn and have such fond memories of just rolling in all the dry leaves and loving the crunching sound and feel against my coat as we rolled down hills. I have this wonderful creeper on my house which turns the most beautiful colour each Autumn/Fall and looks spectacular.

leaves

Let’s get onto some Beauty and see what I have been trying:-

PHILIIP KINGSLEY ELASTICISER
Who doesn’t love a Hollywood icon like Audrey Hepburn? Well darling Audrey had problem hair like I do in the sense that it was coloured, but unlike me she was having hers styled all the time for some epic movie or appearance. She approached Philip Kingsley in his trendy London salon and asked him to create a product to help improve the condition of her constantly stressed out hair! The result is the hero product of Philip Kingsley’s range – the Elasticiser.

elasticiser

It’s a pre-shampoo treatment and the way I used it was to dampen my hair but to let it dry off slightly and then apply the product and leave this on for about 40 minutes (it says 20 but I think my hair is really dry). Then I rinsed it off – this needs probably two rinses as the product is so thick and intense and it works by delivering a rush of moisture in the hair cuticle. This product can be used on all types of hair but mine is fairly straight and getting thinner by the year! Result was I can say beautiful body and shine to my hair….. so it can be done outside a treatment at the hairdressers. It’s a really beautiful treatment which I think is probably a weekly one, depending just on how dry your hair is. When your hair feels good, you feel good don’t you, so Audrey must have been one very happy lady.

EUCERIN VOLUME FILLER EYE CREAM
I am fast becoming a fan of the amazing Eucerin brand with a history of more than 100 years in the holistic dermo cosmetic approach to skincare. Perhaps its the fact that their products are free from perfume and alcohol (save that for drinking!) and non comedogenic (I had to look that up and it means it doesn’t block your pores …. I am sure you knew that anyway.) and that all means it suits my sensitive skin really well.

eucerin eye filler

This latest one I have tried targets that area which is one of the first to show signs of ageing – underneath the eyes. It helps tighten that area up by increasing the size of the volumising cells by peptides (those lovely things that we need) to help strengthen the collagen which in turn helps keep those little lines away. It has also got that lovely Hyaluronic Acid – the magic ingredient which works at surface level to increase water retention and the fantastic other thing it has is SPF 15 (why don’t more eye creams have that ?) I pop it on morning and night and although I have wrinkles, I am trying to stop them from becoming worse.

EVE SNOW BB BASE COAT
I only recently fell in love with this gorgeous London brand and loved the coral colour that I tried on my toes over Summer so I thought that I would try their BB Basecoat as my stocks of basecoat had run out and I always like to try something new. The difference with Eve Snow brands from many of the other cheaper ones is that it has benefits for your nails. Containing oils to keep more moisturised and B vitamins to help strengthen, then what I found is that my nails do really feel much less brittle than before, much healthier and their growth is helped by the B vitamins.

eve snow base coat

It’s lovely to apply, covers really well and leaves a glossy shine of goodness and also for me, helps fill in some of the ridges I have on my nails, making it easier and a much better result when I apply the top coats. Actually you could leave this on your nails if that is the kind of look you like as its a nice glossy finish and its doing your nails good too. That combined with the gorgeous bottle too – I love the fact it has a little indent in it half way down as it helps you to grip on the bottle. Many a bottle of nail varnish has ended up slipping out of my hands and smashing onto a hard tiled floor ….oops! Oh … did I mention that it was quick drying too? This has to be my most favourite base coat.

Hoping you have enjoyed the reviews this week and sending you my love.

THE SILKIEST CONCEALER FROM DELILAH, SAYING GOODBYE TO DRY HAIR WITH BUMBLE AND BUMBLE MASQUE AND NAILS INC NAILKALE GLOUCESTER ROAD POLISH REVIEW

Well I am back from Rhodes last night to the UK. Don’t you just hate it when you get off that aeroplane and instead of that warm, humid breeze that we had in Greece, its the cold, northerly wind that we have in the UK? Still it is lovely to be back and glad that today is slightly sunny so that I am not missing that Mediterranean sunshine so much. I had such a lovely time with Becky and Holly as we had our annual catch up about life – work, men, just about everything …. I did think actually as we were round the pool that these lovely couples who were so quiet and reading books etc would have been laughing as they listened to our conversation about all sorts of things. I guess it’s a little bit different a mum and two daughters going away, isn’t it but we all love it and hang on to the special times that we have together. But now it’s back into the chaos of life….. Love it!!!!

DELILAH COSMETICS FAREWELL CREAM CONCEALER
I wouldn’t be writing this blog unless I loved all things make up and the girls always laugh so much at me because I have to just swatch everything … I just love it so much and also want to know how it feels … texture must be so important to me … they say that, don’t they that one of the most important of the senses is touch and how good that can make you feel … but I ramble, sorry. Anyway, fast forward to a company that I hadn’t heard of before, hence I love it already hehe …. but it’s called Delilah and is available through Space NK and Fortnum and Mason and in some lovely spas around the country and although it doesn’t have a great range of products what it does have is certainly in what I would call the luxe end. Lots of oooh and aaaahhhhing going on this end as I swatch stuff. If you are short of time (tick), often like a pretty natural make up look (tick) like something that’s nice and easy (tick), then their Delilah Cosmetics Farewell Cream Concealer could be something for your wishlist.

DELILAH CONCEALER

It comes in a gorgeous dark metallic pencil, Chubby Stick style design and you just twist the end to allow more of the pencil product to come out (so no sharpener required!) and looks really chic in your make up bag but it’s the formula that I am in love with as this is so silky smooth (not draggy at all like some formulas) and provides undetectable coverage which is what you want (provided you get the right colour). There are 6 shades in the range and the formula is dreamlike … disappearing into your skin and so easily applied to under eye, redness around the nose etc and even covers some dark spots that I have and thanks to some of that amazing hyaluronic acid it helps fill very fine lines and makes everything look smoother. Nothing is going to sort out deep chasms, but it does a great job on the finer variety! It also has got moisturisers and anti oxidants in there which leave the skin feeling soft and hydrated whereas some concealers can have a very drying effect. It’s £24.00, which isn’t cheap, but look at what you are getting for it. Lovely product to have and just touch up easily later on in the day if you need to…. easy peasy.

BUMBLE AND BUMBLE QUENCHING MASQUE
Having just been on my holidays, I wanted to tell you about something which possibly saved my hair from being pretty dry when I got back. We all know how much the sun, wind, heat styling products dry hair out and I am always dealing with this problem with my hair. So I took this lovely masque by Bumble and Bumble which deals with really dry hair and applied it most days after we came in from round the pool.

BUMBLE AND BUMBLE MASQUE

I would have my shower and then apply this and leave it in a shower cap for 15 minutes whilst I went and sat on my balcony and stared at the beautiful, calming view over the sea … how attractive I must have looked hehe …. a cup of tea in my hand … and I was in heaven. It’s got lovely clean and fresh packaging which reminds me of the beach and comes in a super squeeze tube so it’s really easy to apply. The masque is quite thick so it does take a bit of rinsing out but the results were worth it as my hair felt beautifully soft and shiny and was a great detangler, which takes some doing with coloured hair and I am finding that it works better over time too.

KIKO ULTRA TECH CURVE CURLING MASCARA
Regular viewers and readers will know how much I love Kiko products and we are lucky enough to have one in Nottingham and I know that they are opening them in many cities around the country so many of my UK readers will be able to give them a visit. When you go I am sure you will love it …. if you like make up!!! The latest product I tried from there is their Kiko Curling Mascara reduced from £7.20 to £3.10 which gives great volume and upward curl because of its flexible brush. It’s a beautiful mascara and has double length bristles with the shorter bristles on the top helping you to do the lower lashes.

KIKO CURLING MASCARA

NAILS INC NAILKALE
Love, love, love Nails Inc Nail Polish for their quality of polish, their bottles and their fabulous colours that they bring out to match catwalk and fashion trends. Autumn is kinda here …… kinda coming and I was really excited to find the colour in their newish range Nailkale called Gloucester Walk. This is what I call my Quality Street colour – you know the lovely purple chocolate with the nut in the toffee that people have been known to fight over at Christmas (or is that just me?!) so how excited was I to purchase this and have a go. The Nailkale formula is different in that it contains anti oxidants in its formula to help boost keratin and build stronger nails (something which I always need). Love, love, love too this gorgeous weighty bottle which looks and feels so expensive and the concave design and the modern chrome cap, and the fact that you can put your finger underneath the cleverly designed bottle to see what the nail polish would actually look like on your nail … genius.

NAILS INC NAILKALE

In my usual quick way I proceeded to paint my nails, not at first noticing that the brush is a new design too which is a wide flat paddle design, curved at the tip, and so I actually put too much on initially as it holds a lot of product. The brush is really dense though so it enables you to get really close to the cuticle to get a nice clean line. And what’s the polish like ? Well you won’t be disappointed because its super smooth and super pigmented so that Wow … two coats and it dries to an amazing looking high shine beautiful finish. I am so happy with my Quality Street … Gorgeous.

Let me know if you have tried any of these Nailkale formulas and what you think of them.

As always lots of love and have a great week

Gill xx
