Hello Lovelies

Welcome to this week’s blog and a quick update on my life and then some beauty. Last week I was asked to model on International Women’s Day for charity and I must admit that I was feeling slightly nervous as I have never modelled before. But it was for charity and such good causes that I couldn’t say no. So here’s a little pic of me strutting my stuff in amongst some amazing women who were so supportive and lovely that after only one gin and tonic I felt very at ease!

A lovely friend of mine recommended I try Lipstick Queen lipsticks and I must admit I never had. I had seen them everywhere and anyway the shade she wears is Star System in the Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope line of lipsticks, based on the glamour personalities of Hollywood that glide on the red carpet past the velvet rope. Let’s start with the out of this world packaging – raised velvet on the box gives it that luxury look (if you don’t like velvet like my daughter doesn’t then this would be a no no!) and that luxury feel and coupled with that beautiful midnight blue colour it looks like the content are going to be pretty special!

The case for the lipstick is a gorgeous chunky, heavy, gold tube with a magnetic action that keeps the lid on it and feels deliciously weighty in your hands .. I love it. Let’s talk about the actual lipstick now and I have to say it is super pigmented and absolutely glides across your lips beautifully light probably because of the vitamin E and apricot oils in it so its nourishing your lips too and gives a matte finish.

The colour is a pinky/peachy beige on me and a pale woman can pull this off beautifully. If you have more warmth in your skin then this colour’s not for you but they do do a couple of other shades in this luxurious range. It’s pricey, at £38, but in terms of quality of product and the gorgeous packaging it’s probably worth the splurge if you are a lipstick junkie.

It is the year of the Eyebrow which I am sure you must be very aware of! So let’s talk about something that I have been using that I am loving at the moment. I like something that’s pretty quick and easy when it comes to my eyebrows and this Hourglass Eyebrow pencil with its advanced formula of powder and wax in a pencil gives me great soft, natural looking and not too heavy eyebrows.

It’s amazing because it has a slanted point which makes it so easy for me to use and then the actual packaging is heavy enough to help it glide across my eyebrows. The pointy end lets me do individual hairs and then the flatter edge lets me fill in the larger areas ( I have a couple of gaps in mine!)

hourglass spoolie

And there is a spoolie on one end which is brilliant for brushing the hairs up . The formula lasts all day, has no red tones to it and is probably the best brow pencil that I have ever used. It’s £26 and worth it!

Charlotte Tilbury is I think one of the most exciting brands to arrive in a long time. Her packaging is swoon worthy and a lot of the make up products are fantastic but how would her Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream fare with me,as like it or not it is £70. The history supposedly behind it is that Charlotte concocted this whilst working with models who were tired and stressed and needed something to plump up their skin and make it all dewy again.

Firstly, as I said earlier, the packaging is a little piece of magic too with its pull away ends to reveal the most gorgeous clear jar with rose coloured twist off lid. Lovely to look at. The actual product is really creamy, fine for me as I do have quite normal to dry skin, but if you have oily skin or acne then this wouldn’t be right for you that’s for sure. It absorbs quickly into my skin and feels really soft and has a slightly pearlescent finish to it which for me is great, but again wouldn’t suit everyone. It keeps it comfy throughout the day and is great to put make up on and has the added bonus of having SPF 15 in it.

The only downside for me at this price is that it makes great claims about its anti-ageing properties and looking at the ingredients list, the anti ageing peptides are way down the list so the amounts are likely to be quite small. It has a fragrance, which I don’t mind, but that might put some people off as well. For me … I probably wouldn’t purchase this again, as I personally think there are better, cheaper products out there to do the same job. But, if dryness is an issue for you and you have the money to splurge and want a gorgeous pot to look at and use … then it might be that it’s for you.

That’s it for this week and I am super excited to be going to Florida on Friday (I am writing this a day earlier) for ten days so I hope to have some lovely hot weather and will be blogging out there.

Lots of love as always xxx

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to this week’s blog. Sorry there wasn’t one last week .. some weeks are just chaotic with everything else and I just don’t get the time! (Awful I know ). This week it’s my birthday …. Yay!!! and so I am writing this when I can to fit around my birthday celebrations. Aren’t Birthdays wonderful and at this time of the year I have Holly’s then Becky’s and then mine all in the course of 2 weeks so it’s a bit like Christmas!! But I love it and am off to London for a couple of days with my husband, maybe take in a show. I love London… so busy and exciting but then I am glad to return to my quiet retreat in Nottingham!

So let’s get onto some beauty ..

Wow!!! I try so so many mascaras and am often left wanting more out of a mascara … I don’t know whether you feel the same. My eyes are quite sensitive and I find it difficult to wear false lashes, but sometimes I just want more volume and length … doesn’t every woman? However, this week I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of new mascara by Max Factor which promises what we all want more lift and volume.

new max factor

One of the best things about going to a launch is chatting to all the experts which I love and talking to the people who came up with the idea and the science behind it and also having a top make up artist apply it to you in the right way. Wow!! what a difference. Quite the likes of the amazing brush you will never have seen before and the only way to describe it is wide fins on the brush which grip and lift the lash and load more product onto it because of it. The bristles are long and these twist around the brush to remove excess formula and help to separate my lashes more.

Perhaps one of the best features as well is the shape at the end of the brush (my camera doesn’t really pick this up that well) but I found this helped me coat my bottom lashes so much easier than a brush and they looked the fullest they have ever looked and I also used it on my top lashes to help fan out my lashes at both ends. So two coats of this and spending more time on the roots to coat the lashes (and really getting in there!) were my learnings from the evening. I absolutely love the results and a few more seconds work with a wonderful product makes my eyelashes look incredible and long lasting. It’s now my go to mascara for fab lashes. The RRP is £11.99 but Boots have it on sale for £9.99.

We all know how good coconut oil is supposed to be when using it for cooking and I for one am a big fan of it …but who would have thought that you could get so many uses out of this lovely coconut oil, besides cooking? I have a tub of this gorgeous product, which is extra virgin 100 per cent raw, cold pressed coconut oil and have been using it for more than just cooking.

coco oil

I keep my tub in my bathroom which has underfloor heating and so is quite lovely and warm and have been smothering myself in it pre-shower, including armpits and between my toes and the lovely deodorising and bacterial qualities of it means I do not need a body wash so I come out of the shower smelling lovely and with amazingly soft skin. I love the smell of coconut.

It needs to be warmed and liquid to do a lot of these things and one of the other uses I have found for it is smothering it in my hair as a hair mask and then popping a shower cap on and leaving this on my hair for about an hour, as a real treat, then shampooing and conditioning as normal and my hair feeling incredibly super soft after this luxury treatment.

vita coco

I am loving the fact that there are so many uses for this lovely coconut oil and the fact that it is extra virgin 100 per cent. Then, if there is any left over (and I am doubting there will be now …) I can always pop a little into my cooking!(only joking .. not sure that would be that hygienic … but I have a jar next to my cooker). Amazing multi tasking product..It’s available in Boots, Urban Outfitters, Amazon and starts at £5.99.

I have been talking a lot about oil this week, and oil does seem to be everywhere in beauty doesn’t it and now it has come over to the nail department. I have been sampling some of l’Oreal’s new varnishes which are infused with oils (nice) .. which I had a feeling I would love because I am all about trying to nourish my dry nails as much as possible and here it is in a nail polish. Firstly, those bottles, how beautiful are they and how beautiful they would look on a dressing table or in your bathroom with their crystal glass effect – very vintage.

nail polish

And the colours … I tried the 3 above – 222 Jardin des Roses, 116 Cafe de Nuit, and 224 Rose Ballet – all such pretty dainty colours which are so easy to apply because the brush is quite thick but covers the nail really easily and applies an ideal amount to give me a fast, flawless finish. I found I needed two coats – perhaps in the darker colours available (as it comes in 22 shades) you would only need one. The colours are lovely and it gives a pretty gloss effect when applied due to the oils in it. Also it has a very slight smell of rose when it dries which is different from a lot of other nail polishes. I am in love with nudey/pale polishes at the moment and I am in love with these pretty bottles. £4.99 from Boots.

Have any of you tried the new mascara yet from Max Factor as I would love to hear what you think?

Lots of love as always
