Anti ageing, Beauty

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to this week’s blog and update on my life and beauty! This last week I had some lovely friends over for dinner on the Saturday night and enjoyed doing lots of cooking, which I often don’t have the time to do (as I am sure you find too) .. but it was fun to be able to plan a really lovely meal and make some gorgeous food for my friends. I always so appreciate anything anyone makes for me as I understand the time and effort that goes into creating food for friends. This is a little photo of one of the desserts that I made which was actually Mary Berry’s chocolate mousse and I served it in some Royal Albert china cups which I actually borrowed from Becky. I thought that it was a cute idea to serve them like this and the mousse tasted really amazing (I love chocolate), but wasn’t too much for a dessert.

Let’s get onto some beauty products that I have been trying this last week…

Everyone knows the iconic YSL Touche Eclat and how that changed how we highlight today and YSL have now reformulated their foundation with a fantastic improvement I would say. I must confess that I really didn’t get on with the first foundation they brought out as I found it too dewy and oily for my more mature skin and so was slightly cautious about trying the new formulation, but I was able to obtain a tester from Debenhams when they first came out and got matched up for the Spring/Summer with BR40. They have a fantastic range of 22 shades and the B stands for Beige and the R for rose, being perfect for a slightly pinky toned skin like mine. In the winter I would probably drop back to a BR30. The promise is to give that fresh faced look of 8 hours sleep using catchlight technology, anti fatigue complex and lots of ingredients including vitamin E to help the skin be less tired. I really love a foundation that actually helps the skin too. As we age we need more and more help evening out the tone and brightening it so I was keen to try this.

This foundation is designed to give more intense coverage than the previous one, as well as looking and feeling light and natural which is certainly what I am looking for. The main problem area for me is covering redness and I found that it did this beautifully and that I barely needed much concealer – I did use an under eye concealer but even without it the YSL did a great job of brightening that area. So it evened out my redness (yaaay!) and I only added powder down my t-zone and slightly onto my cheeks where my pores are larger now. I love the slight glow that it gives you (it’s not too much) and with the increased coverage, and lasting longer than the previous one, it’s perfect when you want that flawless look. This is my latest go-to foundation and I am loving it. Ooh and I apply it with a brush. You could use a beauty blender but I sometimes find that uses more product and with this being quite an expensive foundation, then you want to make sure it lasts as long as possible! I got mine at Debenhams for £29.25

ysl top shot

What a gem of a find this is? How much do I love a product that does more than one thing? And one that is great to carry around in your handbag for touch ups at in that late afternoon time slot before you are going out after work for drinks with friends ???

EL perfectionist

This product claims to be “youth infusing” .. oh yes lets have some of that! with a corrector/concealer at one end and a brightening serum at the other. I swipe the creamy concealer end under my eyes and find it conceals any dark circles that I have and then gently blend that in with my warm fingers and love that it is really hydrating for that delicate under eye area and that the concealer is really long wearing too. It is a lovely really lightweight concealer too and comes in some great shades. I also use it on areas of redness or any odd spot that I might have.

Then I take the brightening serum end and apply this on my eye socket bone and take that out to the side of the eyes. The serum is lovely to apply and helps to smooth the appearance of fine lines and it has colour correcting optics in it which again help to even out skintone and brighten any shadowy areas that I may have.

el perfectionist 2

Although called a highlighter, I would call it more of an illuminator as it hasn’t got as much shimmer as a liquid highlighter and it lifts the eye area and brightens the skin without being pearlescent, which in daytime might be too much.

I love it and literally carry it in my handbag all the time as I find it is an instant touch up/pick me up to the eye area and the face and love the fact that it is a two in one product.

That’s it for this week – a quick pic of me just before the guests arrived last week.

Love to you all as always and thanks so much for reading xx

Hello Lovelies

The weeks fly past don’t they and this last week I went for a few days to grab the final few days of the snow, skiing in France, and was lucky enough to have a couple of nice days weatherwise in the Alps with some gorgeous blue sky and lovely temperatures. It’s back to the UK now, but even here the weather has been quite sunny and thoughts with me are definitely towards having a little bit of colour on my winter skin, I don’t know about you, but I hate looking all pale and pasty!

So onto some beauty ….

From the amazing Benefit, makers of the best selling bronzer “Hoola”, comes an instant bronzer, but instead of for the face, this is for the body. Now I am looking for something quick, that I can put on last minute if I think I am going our for lunch/dinner and feel like I need some colour. Take a moment to just sit back and admire the most gorgeous packaging which Benefit do amazingly well and what I love about this little gem is that you can take the top apart and it reveals a great hands free applicator which you just squeeze the gel onto and then apply it to your arms and legs in circular motions, so you don’t get your hands all dirty!! Result!! It’s a gorgeous smooth, non-sticky (which is amazing) formula that gives your body a lovely matte bronze which looks natural and doesn’t have any shimmer, because let’s face it you don’t want shimmer everywhere.

It’s a 12 hour tan that is transfer resistant , which is another bonus, and as I apply it it really does have a lovely colour and definitely you don’t have any streaks, so again it looks much more natural. If you want a slightly deeper colour then you just let it dry and apply a second coat, and one of my favourite things is that it leaves your skin feeling really soft and hydrated whereas a lot of these instant tans can be quite drying. Love, love, love this and will be using this a lot certainly on these Spring days when the sun decides to come out, or not! It’s £19.50 and available from Debenhams, House of Fraser etc.

I have a crazy friend who whenever he used to photograph all the ladies used to say “Lick your Lips!” which used to have us howling with laughter (which he loved of course!), but the purpose was to make sure that your lips were glistening for the camera. No need to “lick my lips” now, because lovely Lancome have brought playful fun back into applying lip colour with their new Lancome Juicy Shakers.

lancome shaker

The Shaker design comes from an original idea from Lancome in 1946 when it was a lipstick that featured a martini shaped silhouette, when cocktails were very in vogue. It’s that same shape that you see when you open up your package and you find that the colour has gone to the bottom and the nourishing blend of apricot, cranberry, almond and peach oils has risen to the top so that it needs a good old cocktail shake! Once you have quickly shaken your cocktail/lip colour then it’s time to take the lid off to reveal the gorgeous shaped cushion applicator which is lovely to apply the wash of colour. Very chic.

The shade I have is Meli Melon which does indeed have a smell of melon as all of the 20 different tints have different smells and another favourite of mine is Piece of Cake which is a lovely peachy colour. The lip colour gives a lovely natural pretty flush which I think is great for Spring/Summer but if you are looking for more colour pay off then this isn’t for you.

I love the fact though that Lancome have brought a fun change into the beauty regime. Enjoy your cocktail! Available from all the main beauty stores like Debenhams and Boots for £18.

Have a great week. Love as always.

Hello Lovelies

I am fresh back from Florida – Orlando and Miami to be precise and the amazing temperatures of 28 degrees (bit of a shock coming back to the UK!) Oh how I loved it, both the places and the people and we hired a Mustang convertible to view the sights (must have visited most of the shopping malls in Orlando!) and then hired bikes in Miami to cycle along the boardwalks for miles to explore their beautiful city and beaches. Breakfast would be amazing at an organic restaurant and was usually eggs and bacon or avocado and fresh juice and of course, an amazing coffee. Each day I would pass cafes with people eating these amazing waffles with all sorts of incredible things on the top from strawberries to cream to ice cream and each morning I would think that I would have one of these, but sadly, I never quite got around to ordering one of these, afraid that I wouldn’t be able to finish it!!! Maybe next time if we go back. I cannot recommend Florida enough for a holiday for all ages … my husband and I are too old for Disney (you are never too old for Disney I hear you shout …. but until we have grandchildren, I am definitely not going), we went to fabulous restaurants, beaches, museums, and of course amazing shopping malls and if you are really lucky, or some might say unlucky, you will see an alligator!

Let’s get onto some Beauty! …..

You might or might not remember that I am a huge fan of Hylamide, well this is another product from the company Deciem, their sub brand, Hand Chemistry, containing a 1 per cent retinoid complex for scars, stretch marks, ageing and dehydrated skin. We are all beginning to realise that for anti ageing there definitely needs to be some retinol involved although some people have a tendency to be too sensitive to use this. However, Hand Chemistry uses vitamin technology to produce prescription strength Retin A results and my sensitive skin wasn’t red or irritated! Initially I was using this on my hands and have been using this for about a month and definitely noticed the pigmentation lightening and my hands much softer and hydrated, but this can be used all over your body on stretch marks or pigmentation and also on your face.

retin oil

Oh my goodness I got off the Florida flight yesterday and came home feeling really dehydrated. Yesterday evening I put the retin oil over my face and décolleté at night and I woke to the softest, loveliest skin this morning and I mean really soft and plumped up. I am making sure some goes on tonight! It has a dry oil texture so when you apply it, it really absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave that greasy feeling on your face, which I really don’t like and it has a citrusy sort of smell, which soon disappears, and I don’t mind at all. The combination of vitamins C and E and deep sea red algae also contribute to anti ageing. I am in love with it and will probably be purchasing another bottle to use on my ageing body too. It’s available from Boots for £19.99.

I recently treated myself to the most beautiful eye shadow palette as a treat for me and a treat for my eyes. Gwen Stefani helped select the most gorgeous shades of eyeshadow for this Urban Decay palette and I was so excited as I love Urban Decay for their velvety texture, rich colours, serious staying power and blendability.

gwen stefani

This palette is a fantastic array of nudes, golds, taupes in both mattes and shimmer, perfect for every day and then 2 more colourful options, the pink, which I am sure to love and the blue, well maybe as a liner or a touch of it to add depth for a really smokey eye.

urban decay

The packaging is gorgeous in black and white and gold and I use the mirror all the time to apply not only my eye make up, but everything and for travel its brilliant! It’s perfect for my every day and serious smokey, neutral eyes, paired with a red lip maybe? It would make a fabulous present for someone and although it is limited edition, it’s still available. Mine will be well used and will go with me everywhere. It is available in Debenhams for £40.00

I have previously written about one of my favourite eye make up removers, Clarins, but the rate I go through it, made me look at a cheaper version and this one was from Boots. It comes in a see through bottle and is a mix between miscellar water and an oil cleanser but you do need to shake it to mix the contents together as otherwise it might not be as effective.

no 7

I try not to drag or pull my eyes too much when removing my make up and I shake the cleanser, put some onto a cottonwool pad and let this soak in and then place that over my eyes for a few seconds to allow the cleanser to work and then gently wipe it all off. I find it removes eyeliner, mascara and everything and it does claim to remove waterproof although I don’t tend to wear that very often. It’s less oily than the Clarins and some might prefer that. I suspect that the Clarins might clean it off slightly quicker, but the price difference is Clarins £15.20 and the No 7 is £8.50. My bank balance loves it too!

Have a lovely week. My love as always.
