Hello Lovelies

I am fresh back from Florida – Orlando and Miami to be precise and the amazing temperatures of 28 degrees (bit of a shock coming back to the UK!) Oh how I loved it, both the places and the people and we hired a Mustang convertible to view the sights (must have visited most of the shopping malls in Orlando!) and then hired bikes in Miami to cycle along the boardwalks for miles to explore their beautiful city and beaches. Breakfast would be amazing at an organic restaurant and was usually eggs and bacon or avocado and fresh juice and of course, an amazing coffee. Each day I would pass cafes with people eating these amazing waffles with all sorts of incredible things on the top from strawberries to cream to ice cream and each morning I would think that I would have one of these, but sadly, I never quite got around to ordering one of these, afraid that I wouldn’t be able to finish it!!! Maybe next time if we go back. I cannot recommend Florida enough for a holiday for all ages … my husband and I are too old for Disney (you are never too old for Disney I hear you shout …. but until we have grandchildren, I am definitely not going), we went to fabulous restaurants, beaches, museums, and of course amazing shopping malls and if you are really lucky, or some might say unlucky, you will see an alligator!

Let’s get onto some Beauty! …..

You might or might not remember that I am a huge fan of Hylamide, well this is another product from the company Deciem, their sub brand, Hand Chemistry, containing a 1 per cent retinoid complex for scars, stretch marks, ageing and dehydrated skin. We are all beginning to realise that for anti ageing there definitely needs to be some retinol involved although some people have a tendency to be too sensitive to use this. However, Hand Chemistry uses vitamin technology to produce prescription strength Retin A results and my sensitive skin wasn’t red or irritated! Initially I was using this on my hands and have been using this for about a month and definitely noticed the pigmentation lightening and my hands much softer and hydrated, but this can be used all over your body on stretch marks or pigmentation and also on your face.

retin oil

Oh my goodness I got off the Florida flight yesterday and came home feeling really dehydrated. Yesterday evening I put the retin oil over my face and décolleté at night and I woke to the softest, loveliest skin this morning and I mean really soft and plumped up. I am making sure some goes on tonight! It has a dry oil texture so when you apply it, it really absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave that greasy feeling on your face, which I really don’t like and it has a citrusy sort of smell, which soon disappears, and I don’t mind at all. The combination of vitamins C and E and deep sea red algae also contribute to anti ageing. I am in love with it and will probably be purchasing another bottle to use on my ageing body too. It’s available from Boots for £19.99.

I recently treated myself to the most beautiful eye shadow palette as a treat for me and a treat for my eyes. Gwen Stefani helped select the most gorgeous shades of eyeshadow for this Urban Decay palette and I was so excited as I love Urban Decay for their velvety texture, rich colours, serious staying power and blendability.

gwen stefani

This palette is a fantastic array of nudes, golds, taupes in both mattes and shimmer, perfect for every day and then 2 more colourful options, the pink, which I am sure to love and the blue, well maybe as a liner or a touch of it to add depth for a really smokey eye.

urban decay

The packaging is gorgeous in black and white and gold and I use the mirror all the time to apply not only my eye make up, but everything and for travel its brilliant! It’s perfect for my every day and serious smokey, neutral eyes, paired with a red lip maybe? It would make a fabulous present for someone and although it is limited edition, it’s still available. Mine will be well used and will go with me everywhere. It is available in Debenhams for £40.00

I have previously written about one of my favourite eye make up removers, Clarins, but the rate I go through it, made me look at a cheaper version and this one was from Boots. It comes in a see through bottle and is a mix between miscellar water and an oil cleanser but you do need to shake it to mix the contents together as otherwise it might not be as effective.

no 7

I try not to drag or pull my eyes too much when removing my make up and I shake the cleanser, put some onto a cottonwool pad and let this soak in and then place that over my eyes for a few seconds to allow the cleanser to work and then gently wipe it all off. I find it removes eyeliner, mascara and everything and it does claim to remove waterproof although I don’t tend to wear that very often. It’s less oily than the Clarins and some might prefer that. I suspect that the Clarins might clean it off slightly quicker, but the price difference is Clarins £15.20 and the No 7 is £8.50. My bank balance loves it too!

Have a lovely week. My love as always.

Hey Lovelies

It feels like a while since I sat down to Blog and that’s mainly because I find January such a hard month to get excited about. I employ all my survival tactics to get me through … but even then it seems just like such a long, hard month, doesn’t it and to add to that, this last week the girl’s grandma was ill for a few days in hospital and then passed away, which has been such a sad thing for them to bear and has meant long hours in hospitals and waves of sadness at the passing of such a feisty lady who we thought would live forever! So I have been doing my Momma thing and trying to support them in whatever way I can.

So I am beginning to pull out of this … and wanted to tell you about what I have been trying this week. I have never really worn glasses, not until a few years ago when I just thought my eyes were tired and it turned out they were permanently tired and I needed reading glasses and a bit of distance! Anyway, this week, saw me excitedly picking up my new glasses from Specsavers which is where I always go, and this time I went for designer glasses that Twiggy has launched for Aurora.

gill glasses

There are several within the range, but I went for a lovely pair of deep fuchsia pink glasses that are slightly cat eye in shape (which I think is very flattering), and then to glam them up a bit more, as sometimes, glasses can be a bit plain, can’t they, well these have got beautiful crystals down the sides of them ….. so pretty. Even the Aurora case for them has got a pretty diamante in it. I hope you can see the detail in the photo I took.

close up glasses

Twiggy is such an icon, isn’t she, and I think it’s fabulous that she has helped design her own range of glasses. They are really comfortable and light to wear so I don’t really feel like I am wearing glasses, because I do have a bit of a hate feeling around glasses! I am super happy with them and have them on at this very moment, whilst typing this! They will certainly be worn a lot!! I hope you like them on me too and mine were £125 from Specsavers.

To help cope with the lack of sleep in the past week, and basically anytime that the area under your eyes needs a good sorting out ….. I reach for these amazing little babies. Oh my goodness … each sachet contains two crescent shaped eye patches that you literally just stick under your eyes. All the celebs wear them before an event and certainly if you were up early in the morning – that early morning flight you have to catch or that early morning presentation you have to do and you want to look your best then you would pop these on for 10 minutes.

(Grab a cuppa whilst they are performing their amazingness! ) They are full of gorgeous marine hyaluronic acids and amazing for plumping up those little wrinkles and smoothing out that under eye area. They work even better if they are kept in the fridge too! Your eyes feel incredibly rested afterwards as well. The best place I find them is Feel Unique, £28 for a box of 8 pairs. I think I could be addicted to these …. as I am definitely not a morning person hehe ….

Now here’s a different little primer that I have been loving….. a lovely creamy, liquid primer that has a pearlescent finish to it and added colour to bring a lovely healthy glow to skin tones. It feels really silky smooth to apply and definitely helps even out my skin tone and help the foundation that I put on the top stay locked on!

laura mercier primer

If you had amazing skin then you would even love to wear this on its own to give your skin a subtle glow but I use it as a great base for my foundation and this little primer also has a few anti-oxidants in it, which most of them don’t. Not enough to get over excited about but at least it is helping and it also has oils to nourish the skin. A multi-tasking primer! Like it!

Now … when I saw these … I immediately knew that I was going to love them. As someone who has tried false lashes and just can’t get on with them, finds them uncomfortable and just hasn’t the time to mess around with all that glue … someone must have been watching me .. because that is why Ardell have brought out such an amazing product. Press on Lashes! Apparently the main blockages to women wearing false lashes is Time, and Difficulty of Application. That’s Me!!!!!

Hollywood Movie Magic launched the false eyelash trend in 1916 and women wanted to look the same as their screen idols but Ardell didn’t get going until 1971. My daughter Holly loves Ardell – their Wispies, and I frequently put them in her Xmas stocking or give her them along with her birthday present as I know she loves them and will use them. Her eyes look amazing with them, but I just couldn’t get on with the ones that she uses, so you can understand my excitement that actually now I might be able to sometimes. These press ons are exactly for people like me who don’t wear them every day – I might wear them to a special event or birthday party and the problem with that is that I never practise with the glue and don’t have the technical skills to apply. No problem with these – you just peel them out of the box with your tweezers, making sure they are about the right length for your eyes and if not trim a little bit off the length. Then position them on the lash line and give the eyelashes a squeeze all the way along to make sure they have stuck.

I can’t tell you how easy these are to apply – no fumbling around with the glue and struggling because of my not so good eyesight! These strips are far more comfortable and cushioning than the normal ones too and so for sensitive eyes like mine they are amazing. To remove them, you just peel them off – no pain! Apparently you can buy glue strips from somewhere to re-apply to be able to use these again but at the moment I haven’t found any so please let me know if you know of where I can purchase some.

There is no doubt that these Ardell lashes, in fact most false lashes in general, do make your eyes look fabulous … and that’s how we want to look, isn’t it girlies?? I got mine from Superdrug £8.45. Not cheap, I know, but if it’s a special occasion and you haven’t worn them before then you want to be trying these lovely comfy ones instead of some of the others, and if I can find the glue strips then you could probably use these for about 10 occasions so that’s not too bad.

Lots of Love to you All and thanks for following me :)

Beauty, Hands, Make Up, Nails, Winter

Hi Lovelies

Welcome back to this week’s Blog and yes I did get to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and spent a lovely few hours there having fun.  London was amazing with all its Christmas decorations and loveliness and I am well and truly feeling festive now.  I am one of these people that always has to have a chocolate advent calendar (even though I would love the beauty ones … just cannot splurge that much on an advent calendar) … so it’s a coin that is tossed between my husband and I as to who opens the first one of the calendar … I think the object is to make sure that you have no 24, which is usually the biggest chocolate! At the moment my husband is on target to to get the 24th!!  We are not competitive at all haha…. why don’t we just buy two advent calendars you might ask?  Probably because it is more fun squabbling over one I guess!  Lovely pic of Winter Wonderland for you ….

Now onto the Beauty and this is that luxury brand that decided to come off the runway and into make up …. Burberry!!! Oh my goodness I went into their Covent Garden beautiful store and it can only be described as utter loveliness upstairs where all the cosmetics are as well, in the most beautifully designed space I think I have even seen, with luxury pull out drawers to view the collections (there are also to die for scarves up there).  Splurge worthy?  At Christmas … yes … definitely.

For me it was the Burberry Nail Polish in Military Red which was a must have for me for the festive season.  Not only did they put it in just the cutest, loveliest little Burberry Bag, but the packaging on this has the gorgeous gold chunky contemporary top with the iconic Burberry checked print embossed on the gold.  Swoon! The actual formulation of the polish is patent pending with its quick drying formula which also contains pro Vitamin B to help strengthen and moisturise your nails.  One thing I do suffer from is dry nails and so a brand that helps by putting the moisture in there is going to be a favourite of mine.

The brush is lovely to apply the polish and has a nicely rounded end which helps to make the application more precise (less of the spillage onto the fingers which I seem to be so good at!!) I use my Leighton Denny Precision Corrector to correct any little mistakes.  It covers well in two coats and then with a top coat on top looks very sexy and just right for Autumn/Winter.  This beautiful red which just has to be worn on evenings out and certainly Christmas parties is the red that is in their signature Burberry check.  Would I have liked one of these in my Xmas stocking?  You bet … £15.00 from Burberry. (Christmas lavishness!!)

Mr Max Factor invented the first mascara wand in 1958!  Since then, there have been many and he has added another one to the collection .  Velvet Volume Lash Effect Mascara Max Factor and what is the difference about this one?

This formulation claims to be more lightweight than most others, but when I tested it, the biggest thing for me is that whereas most mascaras can feel brittle and stiff, this one leaves your lashes feeling lovely velvety soft probably because of the beeswax in it, which for me is so nice.  So the idea is because of its lightweight soft formula it doesn’t weigh your lashes down.

I found it really defined my lashes and coated product nicely on every lash and for me it was perfect as an everyday mascara but if you were looking for glam, huge voluminous lashes then this probably isn’t the perfect mascara for you.  It lasted all day and I really love it.  The best price I found it for was £9.99 at Boots.

I truly think that our lovely hands need as much love as our faces (they don’t get it though, do they?) and then one day you look down at your hands and realise that they need some help!! Hand creams are amazing for adding moisture and have the most amazing scents but this latest winter skin busting hand treatment from Hand Chemistry contains 24 per cent of active ingredients from marine and plant sources which penetrate deep below the surface too.  It’s kind of balm like in texture and not at all sticky so it doesn’t seem like a traditional hand cream in that sense and it leaves an invisible layer on top of your hands which locks moisture in too.

This product is all about anti-ageing in the hands and that’s probably why I love it, because it says you get some results in 24 hrs and then others within 10 days … it just keeps on working if you apply it morning and night.  Certainly I noticed more plumpness, and a beautiful smoother, better texture which definitely makes the hands look younger.   The money in this company has gone into costly ingredients and research rather than fancy packaging, however, although I love it as a treatment hand cream, I will still be adding my traditional hand cream on top = Best of Both Worlds.  This was £18.99 online and £19.99 at Boots.

That’s it for this week of Beauty Goodies and it’s now time to go and get that Christmas Tree organised.   I so love Christmas.

Lots of love to you all.

Beauty, Eye Make Up, Make Up

Hi Lovelies

Welcome to another week in the life of …. and this week has seen me struggling with that awful cold, like I am sure loads of you have been, such is the change in the weather. My appetite has waned (good for weight loss hehe!) and I have been drinking loads of tea and Vitamin C! But, I am coming out the other side and will be back on top to my normal enthusiastic self, whereas this week has been that awful,”I am too tired to do much”, which totally isn’t me. That crazy pre-Christmas season is nearly upon us and I need to be ready for it …. fully prepped and ready to go! I am off to London again tomorrow for meetings and of course, some shopping, and am hoping to go to the gorgeous Christmas Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, London – possibly have a go ice skating on the rink there … although that could be disastrous particularly after a glass of mulled wine from the beautiful stalls there at the Christmas market. Fingers crossed!

Let’s get on to some beauty …. and help to say goodbye to that Winter Skin as one of my Holy Grail products Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream makes it to the front of the pack of products again. This cult moisturiser is what shot the Elemis brand to fame and onto everyone’s radar to help them become the huge brand that they are now. Formulated with marine extracts this cream claims to help reduce wrinkle depth and help improve your skin’s texture and tone.

I love Elemis and certainly the quality of ingredients is reflected in the price as this 30ml moisturises comes in at £50, which is quite a price tag to carry. However I often look at the deals that they have on QVC (you can go online if you don’t want to watch it) and you can pick up some amazing savings on Elemis. The cream is really lightweight but is incredibly hydrating and perfect I would say for anyone with dry/combination skin and my skin certainly improves in texture and tone when I continue using this. I always put it over a nourishing serum in the morning and then pop my make up over it. This product is slightly fragranced (it actually smells really nice) and so would be one to avoid if you don’t like that, but even me with my sensitive skin seem to have no problem in using it. It’s one of those products that you need to give time to really see results as well and it just keeps getting better and better. It’s an oldie …. but it’s a goodie.

Don’t we just love Bobbi Brown and everything that she stands for. An ongoing problem for a lot of people is dark circles under their eyes and Bobbi’s answer is to use a corrector first in either pinky bisque tones on purple or blueish circles or peach tones for brown or greenish circles. I obtained the corrector in light bisque.

Its lovely and hydrating and and really creamy so you don’t need much product for it to cover and correct and is probably best applied with a concealer brush and then patted gently with your finger. It certainly for me blocks out any circles coming through. The problem is though that you can’t use corrector alone and then need to apply a skin tone matching concealer which I obtained in Beige and then this has a pale yellow sheer powder with which to set it all, otherwise I think you might have problems with mascara transferring.

I found the important thing was to not apply too much product at a time and for me, because I do have lines under my eyes, I did find that I had to pat it in slightly later in the day as well. On younger skin with no lines or really fine lines, I think both products are amazing, but if you have a lot of lines underneath your eyes, this would definitely be settling in your wrinkles and actually probably almost looking worse. The cheapest price for the corrector was £17.10 and for the concealer was £19.00. Not cheap but they would last you ages and if your major problem is really dark circles, then perhaps you make the decision to show a few wrinkles but you under eye is brightened and you look less tired. Decisions…. decisions …

Lastly onto some pretties …. a gorgeous mini eye shadow palette from Autograph, Marks and Spencers.  Marks and Spencers constantly surprise me with the ranges that they keep bringing out and their Beauty Hall is amazing with the quality of different brands that they stock but this one is their own brand.  This little palette is going to be my party go to eye palette with its blend of lighter, mid and dark shades taking you from a fairly muted look right through to the smoky eye look with darker shades for under the eyes and using on the outer corners of the eye.

Most of the beautiful colours in the browns and copper ranges (but there is also a gorgeous dark green in there with a bit of sparkle), have shimmer in them, but its not over the top sparkle which would be too much, its nice party shimmer which will catch the light and attract attention to your gorgeous eyes.  I am loving this palette and am enjoying playing around with it to achieve some really Christmassy party looks.  What’s life without a bit of highlight/shimmer?  At any age. ….

That’s it for this week and I sending you all lots of love and huggles (is that cuddles and hugs?) in front of the toasty fire.

Beauty, Make Up

Hi Lovelies

Happy Friday! Another Friday here already and a mixed week for me. Last Friday night, I was in London when the awfulness happened in Paris and as I sat in my hotel room, you could feel the whole capital was just in sadness for the events that unfolded in Paris that night. I know it struck Becky and Holly, that my husband and I had gone off to London for a night at the theatre and how for all those families affected, they never knew what the outcome was going to be that night. Add to that, one hell of a cold (caught from my husband who only had a sniffle, but I end up with a really bad head cold) and it’s been a bit of a week. Anyone else on the cold and flu tablets?? So we need a bit of beauty to cheer us up!!!

Let’s get started with a mascara that has been out for a while I know, but one which I have only really used lately. Lancome patented this mascara for its “swan neck” which I must admit I was a bit daunted by at first and almost scared to use? However, on using it you do find that it helps give great lift as you twirl away. I love the brush as sometimes I find them too long or the bristles way too thick for my lashes, but this elastomer one distributes the mascara evenly over the eyelashes and its great for my teeny weeny little lower lashes.

The other nice thing is that is has a nourishing rose oil in it which also helps to smooth as you apply. You do actually get used to the swan neck and probably find you are not doing as many weird head movements to apply it. I have to say when I first used it I did love the lifting and lengthening aspect of it. It’s not for you if you want masses of volume, but I love it as a great mascara (easily removed at the end of the day) for the day. It’s not cheap though … £24.50 was the cheapest that I could find it online for.

Now I am someone that has only over the last year got into oils. I used to think that they would clog my pores and be greasy, which is a feeling I hate, but I am becoming a fan of them. L’Oreal’s version for the likes of me and my lovely friends of a certain age (whatever that might be) – I tend to say it’s more how your skin feels than the age that you are, is a gorgeous blend of 8 essential oils, lavender, marjoram, rosemary, geranium and rose being amongst them. So in there, ideal for me too with sensitive skin are some oils that help have antibacterial properties so help to calm redness and are good for sensitive skin. It does have a slight perfume, which I would say is on the light citrussy side but it doesn’t linger long.

So about 3 drops of this at nighttime (you can use it in the morning as well), rubbed gently in my fingers and then massaged in circular motion on my face and neck and I do decollete as well really does help to leave my skin glow, be much smoother and more nourished. I prefer to do this oil treatment first and leave that for a few seconds and then add my night moisturiser separately but I know some people pop it into their moisturiser and do them both in one step. Having been someone who was really fearful of the whole oil thing, I have been converted to realising that it is just what my skin actually needs, particularly as we get a little bit (only a little bit hehe) older …. as it starts to thin and can look slightly dull too … this is the answer! I found it at all sorts of prices too from £6.90 up to £13.33 online , but either way, it’s a great price for a lovely oil, which using only a few drops a day is going to last you simply ages!! I am now an oil convert !!!!

Wanting a fresh, natural, long wearing, buildable blusher that looks great on fair skin? Then this one is it. This has become my Holy Grail blusher for the past month or so and I purchased it by chance really as I probably wouldn’t have done as it looked like it was going to be glittery/shimmer when in fact it isn’t. It’s a really flattering dusky pink with no fragrance, which is what I like, comes in a lovely silver container and has a mirror as well.

I am not really a fan of the brush although on the move, without your normal blusher brush you could possibly get away with it, but you need to go lightly with the brush supplied as it does tend to make you look clownlike if you are a bit heavy handed with it, so as always go gently with blusher and build it up in layers if you need to. I think it’s good value compared to some higher end blushes, say like Nars, and this would last you ages and ages. Cheapest price I found it at was £19.60 but truly a lovely blush.

That’s it for this week’s blog… I am going to leave you with one of my favourite shoes …. so cute xx

oh … they are from Next …

Lots of love and have a great week and hope you don’t get a cold like me xx

Beauty, Make Up

Hello Lovelies

This week sees me writing this from the sunbed in the Maldives and I am oh so happy (who wouldn’t be?) as I listen to the sound of the waves breaking on the shore and look up to the most amazing, relaxing scene on the horizon. But life isn’t totally perfect … if it makes you feel any better then I have just been bitten by a mosquito so I have had to get the spray out! (They seem to like my blood!) But that’s a small price to pay for being in one of the world’s most beautiful places. I am away here with my workaholic husband, as I have learnt it is one of the few places that helps him relax … even though we have wi fi here so he can still keep in touch via emails etc.

knees photo

This week I was lucky enough to attend a Charity Dinner in aid of such a good cause and I took the occasion to get suitably glammed up and used this as the subject for this week’s video on YouTube. I like to give and help local charities where I can.

gill charity dinner

Anyway let’s get onto some Beauty!

If your skin type is dry, and even if it isn’t and you just have some dry patches in places, imagine a balm that can do so many things. Trilogy’s Everything Balm is a nourishing and protecting balm that I have tried using on my cuticles, my lips, my hands, my elbows, my feet and even underneath my eyes, in fact I have brought it away with me because it does so many things. If you had really dry skin you could also use it as a cleansing balm to remove make up etc, but my skin is combination and I have to be careful not to put something that is so moisturising on it.

It comes in a pretty tin and is a very rich, oily solid balm with high quality natural ingredients that helps you feel good about what you are putting on your skin. After swirling your fingers around in it, it kinda melts into your skin to leave it feeling nourished with a lavender/herbally scent to it, which I don’t mind and because it doesn’t have coconut or shea butter in then it doesn’t tend to block your pores either. All in all a great product for dry, sensitive skin and one that I put in my bathroom bag to bring away but equally it could sit in my handbag when I am home for the colder winter weather that is a coming and I am also thinking of taking it skiing with me in the winter to deal with those chapped lips and help prevent windburn.. So many uses for this gorgeous little tin!!

Night time is a gorgeous time for us to rest our bodies in anticipation of the next day, but it is also the most important time for skin repair, which is why I try most of the time (not always – depending on how exhausted I am!) to have a good night time skincare regime. Part of the ritual that I go through is putting lovely creams on for their texture and effect too. Enter Caudalie, one of my favourite French skincare brands, who have a lovely shop in Covent Garden, but is sold in Selfridges, Space NK and online of course.

caudalie night cream

Their magic ingredient Resveratrol, is allegedly one of the best things to come out of the anti-ageing market (or should I now say pro-ageing market?) in terms of fighting cell degeneration and helps to repair, re-build and hence re-sculpt our skin. I only had the sample size to try (I like to often just get samples to make up my mind if I am going to like it) and must say that I absolutely loved the creamy gorgeous texture and the way it instantly has the effect of firming and hydrating, particularly when used on my neck, jawline and cheeks and waking up to smooth soft skin in the morning, which is also helping to keep those nasty wrinkles at bay hehe…… Pretty pink packaging helps too of course! I think I have mentioned before that my aim next year is to go and stay at the Caudalie Spa near Bordeaux and enjoy some of their beautiful treatments in a beautiful place.

Get excited if you like intense lip gloss colour with shine ….. Wow!!!! To go to the Charity Dinner I wanted a strong red lip and do like shine so I went along to Mac and purchased their new Amplify Lip Gloss. I have never really got on that well with Mac Lipsticks and wondered what to expect with this lip gloss but I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Firstly the texture is creamy, quite moisturising but most of all really highly pigmented although there is a little bit of translucency so a bit of lip colour will be coming through too which is what I wanted.

I went for the shade “Suggestive” which is an intense Blue-Red – Medium Dark Red with cool pinky undertones and loved the doe foot applicator which makes applying it in one swipe really easy and although I applied lip liner as well to help keep the shape, you could almost get away without it. I always apply lip primer too, particularly when wearing a darker colour and if you apply it slightly outside of your lipliner it helps to stop the darker colours bleeding. It certainly lasts for a few hours before I needed to re-apply, it has a slight vanilla scent (not really sure why it needs that, but it didn’t bother me) and all I can say is WOW!!!!! I think I am going to go back and purchase some in different colours as they have a large selection of colours and I hear that these are for a limited period only …(Why?) … so I want to make sure I have my stocks for the winter!!! I am definitely liking the strong lip.

Hope you like the photo of me at the Charity Dinner and if you haven’t watched the video to see how I achieved this look please have a watch on YouTube… Growing Old Disgracefully (of course!).

Lots of love and now off for a G & T (be rude not to !!!) xxx

Beauty, Make Up, Nails

Well I am back from Rhodes last night to the UK. Don’t you just hate it when you get off that aeroplane and instead of that warm, humid breeze that we had in Greece, its the cold, northerly wind that we have in the UK? Still it is lovely to be back and glad that today is slightly sunny so that I am not missing that Mediterranean sunshine so much. I had such a lovely time with Becky and Holly as we had our annual catch up about life – work, men, just about everything …. I did think actually as we were round the pool that these lovely couples who were so quiet and reading books etc would have been laughing as they listened to our conversation about all sorts of things. I guess it’s a little bit different a mum and two daughters going away, isn’t it but we all love it and hang on to the special times that we have together. But now it’s back into the chaos of life….. Love it!!!!

I wouldn’t be writing this blog unless I loved all things make up and the girls always laugh so much at me because I have to just swatch everything … I just love it so much and also want to know how it feels … texture must be so important to me … they say that, don’t they that one of the most important of the senses is touch and how good that can make you feel … but I ramble, sorry. Anyway, fast forward to a company that I hadn’t heard of before, hence I love it already hehe …. but it’s called Delilah and is available through Space NK and Fortnum and Mason and in some lovely spas around the country and although it doesn’t have a great range of products what it does have is certainly in what I would call the luxe end. Lots of oooh and aaaahhhhing going on this end as I swatch stuff. If you are short of time (tick), often like a pretty natural make up look (tick) like something that’s nice and easy (tick), then their Delilah Cosmetics Farewell Cream Concealer could be something for your wishlist.

It comes in a gorgeous dark metallic pencil, Chubby Stick style design and you just twist the end to allow more of the pencil product to come out (so no sharpener required!) and looks really chic in your make up bag but it’s the formula that I am in love with as this is so silky smooth (not draggy at all like some formulas) and provides undetectable coverage which is what you want (provided you get the right colour). There are 6 shades in the range and the formula is dreamlike … disappearing into your skin and so easily applied to under eye, redness around the nose etc and even covers some dark spots that I have and thanks to some of that amazing hyaluronic acid it helps fill very fine lines and makes everything look smoother. Nothing is going to sort out deep chasms, but it does a great job on the finer variety! It also has got moisturisers and anti oxidants in there which leave the skin feeling soft and hydrated whereas some concealers can have a very drying effect. It’s £24.00, which isn’t cheap, but look at what you are getting for it. Lovely product to have and just touch up easily later on in the day if you need to…. easy peasy.

Having just been on my holidays, I wanted to tell you about something which possibly saved my hair from being pretty dry when I got back. We all know how much the sun, wind, heat styling products dry hair out and I am always dealing with this problem with my hair. So I took this lovely masque by Bumble and Bumble which deals with really dry hair and applied it most days after we came in from round the pool.

I would have my shower and then apply this and leave it in a shower cap for 15 minutes whilst I went and sat on my balcony and stared at the beautiful, calming view over the sea … how attractive I must have looked hehe …. a cup of tea in my hand … and I was in heaven. It’s got lovely clean and fresh packaging which reminds me of the beach and comes in a super squeeze tube so it’s really easy to apply. The masque is quite thick so it does take a bit of rinsing out but the results were worth it as my hair felt beautifully soft and shiny and was a great detangler, which takes some doing with coloured hair and I am finding that it works better over time too.

Regular viewers and readers will know how much I love Kiko products and we are lucky enough to have one in Nottingham and I know that they are opening them in many cities around the country so many of my UK readers will be able to give them a visit. When you go I am sure you will love it …. if you like make up!!! The latest product I tried from there is their Kiko Curling Mascara reduced from £7.20 to £3.10 which gives great volume and upward curl because of its flexible brush. It’s a beautiful mascara and has double length bristles with the shorter bristles on the top helping you to do the lower lashes.

Love, love, love Nails Inc Nail Polish for their quality of polish, their bottles and their fabulous colours that they bring out to match catwalk and fashion trends. Autumn is kinda here …… kinda coming and I was really excited to find the colour in their newish range Nailkale called Gloucester Walk. This is what I call my Quality Street colour – you know the lovely purple chocolate with the nut in the toffee that people have been known to fight over at Christmas (or is that just me?!) so how excited was I to purchase this and have a go. The Nailkale formula is different in that it contains anti oxidants in its formula to help boost keratin and build stronger nails (something which I always need). Love, love, love too this gorgeous weighty bottle which looks and feels so expensive and the concave design and the modern chrome cap, and the fact that you can put your finger underneath the cleverly designed bottle to see what the nail polish would actually look like on your nail … genius.

In my usual quick way I proceeded to paint my nails, not at first noticing that the brush is a new design too which is a wide flat paddle design, curved at the tip, and so I actually put too much on initially as it holds a lot of product. The brush is really dense though so it enables you to get really close to the cuticle to get a nice clean line. And what’s the polish like ? Well you won’t be disappointed because its super smooth and super pigmented so that Wow … two coats and it dries to an amazing looking high shine beautiful finish. I am so happy with my Quality Street … Gorgeous.

Let me know if you have tried any of these Nailkale formulas and what you think of them.

As always lots of love and have a great week

Beauty, Hair, Make Up, Nails

Welcome back Lovelies

This Friday has found me back in the UK and positively shivering when I returned … what has happened to our temperatures? We have truly gone into Autumn and I need to be doing some serious thinking about planning an Autumn wardrobe as last year I didn’t buy very much and have very few sweaters to see me through. My problem is I am a “throw on a dress and some heels” kinda gal! Going to be shivering a lot then! Does everyone feel like that when they get back from somewhere fairly warm … put the heating on and how are we going to survive haha? I haven’t actually put the heating on yet, but I have an Aga in my kitchen which I have kept going on low all year round as I can’t bear to be cold. I had a great time in France at the World Rowing Champs where I am pleased to say GB came first in the medals section, so it was exciting times and great to catch up with so many people. Here’s a little shot of the beautiful Lake Aiguebelette on the day my nephew was rowing (for Australia actually).

Now onto some beauty and how would you feel about using a nail polish that is probably the most moisturising I have ever used and doesn’t leave yellow staining on your nail? As you readers will know, I love nail polish and use many brands but trying this latest one by Eve Snow has been different. Right from the glossy way that the polish looked and the richness of colour, I knew that this was different from a lot of brands and the reason for this is that it contains Vitamin E, Argan Oil and Ginkgo Biloba whose properties help to nourish the nail and it is also a brand with fewer toxins in too.

eve snow varnish

I tried this out on my nails a few days before a trip to France where I wanted a nice coral colour to show off my toes and the shade I have is Sunrise Glow. It goes on beautifully and you could almost get away with one coat, but because I was going away for a while I applied two. Ten days on, it still looks glossy and rich in colour, is only very slightly chipped and my nails look and feel so much healthier than a normal varnish would leave them. My toes love it and I am super impressed. Brought out by a 26 year old girl who could obviously see a gap in the market for a great product, which has won a few beauty awards and also give back a percentage of the profits to charity. They sell it in Boots and Marks and Spencers and there is a pretty good colour range too – something for everyone and for each season and it is £14. I am definitely going to be buying an Autumnal shade to try and this one will make it onto my fingernails too!

Now I can be glam, but I also like cute and my daughters knew that I would love this compact when they brought it me from the US. So many blushers come in clumpy boxy containers and this lovely new range from Too Faced comes in a gorgeous sweetheart packaging design which opens up to include a cute heart mirror and a sweet rabbit design within the blush which makes it a fun addition in my make up bag as it is perfect for travelling as well. Don’t you find, that along with the lipstick the blusher is not far behind to fade, and this new one from Too Faced lasts all day once you have applied it.

too faced love flush

The colour I have it in is called Baby Love and is a lovely natural looking blush with a hint (and only a hint) of a gold shimmer in it, making it a perfect blush for the Autumn/Winter and one which would suit all skin tones. It’s really pigmented, so don’t be heavy handed when applying this otherwise you will get a bit of a shock and the blush is super soft to the touch, so really luxurious too. It’s the kind of blush that you would wear every day and it would give you a lovely glow and one which makes me smile every time I take it out of my make up bag.

How many times have I admired this little beauty as a gorgeous palette of finishing powders and finally I succumbed and purchased one a few weeks ago. Firstly, it still is the one of the loveliest beauty products that I own and every time I open it I can’t wait to use it. It’s expensive, yes, I know, but not only is the case beautiful and the product inside but I love the effect that it has on my complexion. Designed to give you that ‘glow from within’, that ‘basking in the glow of candlelight’ look and without any airbrushing, this palette contains 3 beautiful powders to try. A friend of mine mixes them all together and applies it all over her skin to give it that soft glow that we all love, but I play about with mine a little bit more, but it is entirely up to you as to what effect you like.

hourglass ambient

There are three powders within the palette – Dim, Incandescent and Radiant. Dim is a good match for my fair skin tone with just a hint of warmth, a soft beige which works on cool or warm tones and helps to blur any pores, Incandescent has a glow quality for areas that you want to highlight such as cheekbones, tops of eyebrows, bridge of nose etc, and Radiant is a golden beige that adds more warmth to a complexion and I either apply it with a flat foundation brush or a stippling highlighter brush. Finely milled and perfect for mature skin to give me that dewy glow of youth! I purchased mine from Space NK and have never looked back!

For someone that has pretty fine, limp hair – the struggle for volume and weightlessness within a product is quite hard to find so when I found Dove’s Oxygen Moisture Souffle Treatment for fine, flat hair, I thought this had my name on it so hey …. give it a go. Anything with the word ‘souffle’ in and I am hooked – a bit like I would choose a double cooked cheese souffle for a starter at meals. Yum. But hey, let’s get back to the hair… We all have so many issues with our hair that we are trying to deal with and what style we are trying to achieve and so it is usually for me a combination of products which are combined to help me to do this.

dove oygen moisture souffle

It comes in a shallow round tub and is indeed a light, mousse consistency and after shampooing I leave it for 5 minutes in my hair. (the smell is lovely). Although I am initially quite concerned that a product this light will have enough of a moisturising effect I am pleased to say that it does on me feel beautifully light and smooth and soft and with so much more volume than I would have using other shampoos and conditioners. I am thinking that this is a great summer treatment and probably one I will alternate with a richer one in the winter. There is a shampoo and conditioner within the range and I will certainly purchase those to try next time but in the meantime I definitely feel myself stroking my soft, fluffier hair more (that’s probably very annoying to lots of people!)

Hope you have enjoyed the products this week and lots of love.

Beauty, LIPSTICK, Make Up, Summer

Hello Lovelies

Well I guess a lot of you are on Summer holidays and I am hoping the weather is good for you as although it hasn’t been very hot in the UK (it’s more like Autumn!) I am still hanging on in there with summer colours and summer clothes, despite the lower temperatures! So this week, I was lucky enough to go to London and enjoy a fabulous Mad Hatter Afternoon Tea at The Sanderson Hotel, and if you are looking for an Afternoon Tea experience with your friends or family, then this one is beautiful. It follows the Mad Hatter theme right through to the beautiful cakes (couldn’t eat them all so they gave us a take out box) and there is even a trolley full of lots of different jellies if you decide to take children along with you. The theme is amazing and the food is simply gorgeous.

mad hatter

So what have I been using in terms of Summer beauty:-

Well what would life be like without a serum? We all have different needs for our skin but mine is definitely plumping and here we are talking about a serious serum! It’s from the founder of Indeed Labs who came up with the amazing Hand Chemistry that I love so I hoped that it would be good. Well they have truly thrown everything in here – in fact 5 forms of hyaluronic acid and next generation peptides to target not only the surface hydration and elasticity but also below the surface skin too and to help boost that all important collagen and support any collagen that you have. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

It’s a clear gel with no scent and your skin absorbs it in seconds and the idea is that you put it on morning and night after toning and before your moisturiser. The effect is immediate and lasts all day and this keeps on working. I am not so keen on the apothecary type bottle, which I presume is to indicate that it’s a serious product and if anything I would have a word with marketing to change the bottle, but it’s rare to find a product that promises results in 5-10 days and these guys have been able to put potent ingredients in and make it available to women in their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and the best thing about it is that its way more affordable than some lesser potent brands costing £30.00 for 30ml. Great, great product and sometimes worth spending the extra to get the results and I certainly love it as I need all the help I can get! It’s available in Boots or direct from Deciem.

How much of a scrubber are you? Scrubbing is a part of my beauty routine for both my face and my body to polish away the dead skin cells and encourage new skin and help reduce fine lines, large pores etc. Well have I found the scrubber for you, if that’s what you are in to. This is probably the finest, grittiest scrub I have ever tried (and if you have super sensitive skin then this is definitely a No No for you!) but if you like to scrub then you are going to love this product made with ruby crystals no less!

goldfaden scrub

It’s effect is similar to a milder form of the treatment microdermabrasion and you only need the tiniest amount rubbed really gently, and I stress gently, over your face, neck and décolleté, in fact I even used it on the backs of my hands … and the effect is super smooth, glowing skin instantly. Wow!!! Because the crystals are perfectly spherical, they exfoliate without damaging your skin. I would avoid areas with little broken veins though, like on the side of your nose. They say you can use it daily, but for me, twice a week would be enough to change your dull skin into super glowing skin. This product is £65 for the pot but you are paying for the ultimate in skin polish here …. and one pot is probably the price of a facial to achieve the same result and this pot will probably last you at least 9 months depending on how much you use it. Truly an AMAZING scrub!!

There’s been a lot of talk about this foundation and when I commented on a friend’s complexion and how lovely it was and she said this was what she was wearing then I knew I had to roadtest some! In Summer I like to wear a lighter foundation if I can and just a bit of concealer and this one comes in about 8 different shades, so I chose Bare Satin.

bareminerals bareskin

It’s ultra thin, which is a bit of shock if you are not used to foundations like that and I also bought the brush which they sell to apply it and you are literally supposed to apply one drop to the centre of the brush and then apply this all over your face and it feels and does look beautiful on your face, although I do need to add some concealer as well. It increases the hydration to your skin with lilac plant stem cells and vitamin C and gives colour and makes it look flawless and has the SPF of 20 in it too so it is helping to protect your skin from the rays. Probably not suitable for combination or oily skins either but if you have normal or drier skin and if you like a natural, light, glowing, flawless kind of look with coverage sheer to light then you won’t be disappointed with this gorgeous foundation.

Summer blushes for me are all about creams and Bourjois (whom I love) have recently brought out 3 water resistant ones – so great for holidays. I purchased the 02 in Cocori Corail and although the colour is a bit scary when it comes out you just blend half a pump of the product with your fingers on the apple of your cheeks and blend upwards. Its super blendable and has an even colour pay off, so it’s really easy to apply.

bourjois aqua blush

The result is a gorgeous sheer, fresh colour and it doesn’t melt off in the heat either. They also do it in Pink Twice and Berry Nice and I like the fact that the packaging changes with the colour of the blush so that it is easy to select from a drawer full of products !!! A great little product that I am loving and will earn a place in my make up bag for summer. (I put it in one of my videos) and I found them for £9 on the Very site but they are also available at Boots.

You probably know by now how much I love this brand for both the quality and the price point and so I was keen to try one of their lip glosses. I love ones with a high shine and this one has that with fortunately, no glitter! haha Can’t deal with that look! When you put this gloss on it tingles slightly on application, not too much though and has like a menthol like feel to it which makes your lips feel quite fresh.

kiko 3d gloss

It volumises your lips, definitely, and the idea is that it keeps on volumising it over time, which it probably does a bit, but not to the point where you think “Whoa, she’s had her lips done!” It’s got hyaluronic acid in to hydrate your lips as some products can dry them out, can’t they and I love the fact that the colour is true to how it looks in the tube. So, a beautiful lip gloss that makes your lips look plump in a firm, kissable way! (always hoping!) It’s £6.90 and available in their stores or at

That’s it for this week’s round up and I am wishing you a continued great summer in the UK anyway, and lots of love xxx

Beauty, Eye Make Up, Make Up

Hi Lovelies and another week is here. Sorry about no blog last week and my computer is now all sorted – a trip to Apple made me a happy bunny! It’s been a busier week with a trip to London which is always exciting and also going on a Date Night with my husband. How important is it in a relationship to spend special time occasionally with the one you love when life all around you is in the fast lane. Just to take some time out and get back to who you are as a couple can sometimes work wonders in a relationship. Awww. I have attached a photo of the outfit I wore (I hope you like it).

So let’s get onto some make up and the experiences I have had over the last couple of weeks. One of the things that I sometimes question is whether a product is worth the high price compared to a cheaper version of the product and so I thought I would try this out with eye make up remover.

Every night practically, I need to use eye make up remover as I do use gel eyeliners, and like to use mascara and sometimes use waterproof, and if I don’t use a good one then I don’t know about you, but I definitely wake up with those ‘Panda Eyes” which is not a good look in the morning if your husband brings you a cup of tea (only occasionally), and ask if you slept ok?? So I liked the idea of the Simple version on my eyes, containing no artificial colour or perfume and set to work with it, putting it to the test with some really difficult smokey eye make up that I had on. I managed to buy it for £1.49 at Superdrug, so the price is amazing but how would it perform in the test?

I put the clear liquid on a cotton wool pad and found that it did remove most of the eyeshadow and some of the eyeliner and mascara but found that I did need to put quite a lot of product on and had to have a go several times to really feel like I was removing it and did find that I struggled to remove the tough waterproof mascara. What it felt like was that I was tugging a bit at my eyes, which personally, having a few wrinkles (as I do!), didn’t feel as comfortable and easy as I would have liked it to. But hey, it’s £1.49!

Onto now, the other end of the spectrum, with Clarins, and this one comes in at £19.00… bit of a difference, but would there be any difference in performance? Sorry about my photo but I have used quite a bit of this and the liquid is actually blue, but don’t let that scare you, your face doesn’t turn blue. So now I placed the blue liquid on cotton wool pads and popped these onto my eyes in the same way and left them for a moment to soak and then wiped away. Wow … what a difference, and in one sweep of a cotton wool pad it removed all the make up and there was no scrubbing away and no redness around my eyes at all. Probably because of the lash strengthening oils in this product as well, my eyelashes felt softer and more conditioned.

Clarins eye make up remover

No contest for me. I felt so much more comfortable easing the make up off this way and there would be no panda eyes to scare my husband in the morning!. There is, of course a price difference, and I know friends of mine can’t use a lot of products on their eyes because of their sensitivity but I was fine with the Clarins and as you can tell from the half empty bottle, I have been using this a lot. By the way, you just need to shake the bottle up before you use it to mix up the contents. I suppose I feel that there are products that you can buy cheaper and it is sometimes down to budget but because I wear make up probably most days, then this is a key item to me and Clarins definitely wins in this contest.

So you have a bit of a tan and you want to make it look even better, so we’re talking illuminators and glow to make you look amazing and one of my favourites is the gorgeous brand Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector and this one is in the shade Opal. OMG, if you haven’t tried it yet, you will just LOVE it!!! It’s a lovely pearlised metallic glow which reflects light back and gives the skin that gorgeous soft look. Every time I put this on, it’s just one of those products that I adore.

Becca shimmering skin perfector

It makes such a difference to your skin. In texture, it’s lovely and thin and doesn’t feel tacky like some of them can do, and spreads and blends beautifully. You can use it on bare skin over your tan on your cheekbones, and I sometimes use in on my décolleté too and I put 3 different little parts of it on my cheek with a stippling brush (although you could use your finger), and then I blend it in with my brush or again you could use your fingers very lightly. Tell me if you don’t think that it looks gorgeous on a tan, as you are sitting there sipping your cocktails ??

So most of us need some sort of concealer particularly for under the eye and in my case, around the nose too, and maybe a little on the chin (in fact, why don’t I cover my whole face with concealer … no only joking .) This Kiko one claims to be full coverage and comes in a choice of 8 shades so you can be sure to find one for you – mine is 02 and I have fair skin. Everyone has different blemishes they want to cover and mine is a few age spots and slight darkness around the eyes and then redness around the nose so I am usually looking for a full coverage concealer.

kiko concealer

This Kiko one from the lovely Kiko Milano range is available online and there is a shop in London and we are lucky enough to have one in Nottingham so I am sure they will be opening up everywhere to rival Mac as their quality of product, particularly in the eyeshadows is amazing and they are so so much cheaper. The consistency is really lightweight and buildable which I personally like. My skin at the moment in summer has a slight oiliness to it and I always put moisturiser on before I apply my make up so the fact that it is slightly dry doesn’t bother me, but if you had really dry skin then maybe this isn’t for you. It has apparently got a sebum absorbing complex in it which would make it brilliant for very oily skins, but I find if fine as my t-zone does have a tendency towards oiliness anyway. I was really pleased with the way it covered up my age spots – sometimes I layered it over them a bit and it would probably cover rosacea as well, again depending how bad it is. Packaging wise it is lovely and compact, with a little mirror meaning that you can take it with you in your handbag and do touch ups later on in the day. The cost is £7.50 and it is so similar in product to the Bobbi Brown and the Mac which cost certainly over the £15 mark that for me, this is a product where I can buy a cheaper version but am super happy with the results.

I know I am a little late on the bandwagon with this one, but I finally thought to myself that I would purchase a Beauty Blender and see what all the hype was about, and in fact the one I purchased from Space NK had a little cleaning soap at the bottom too. Cute hey? Although any baby shampoo or soap would be fine to clean it with. The girls say I am a sucker for packaging!!! It got me too, because it is PINK in colour!!! Girlie!!!! The Beauty Blender was originally created by 2 Hollywood make up artists for a flawless airbrush finish. (That’s what we are all hoping for in our dreams!)

Beauty blender

So first of all you wet it, squeeze it out and then apply the foundation from your hand and dab away on your face. The elliptical shape of it means that it is brilliant for getting into the corners around the eyes and the nose. I really liked the actual process of dabbing away on my face and tried it with both tinted moisturisers and light foundations and was really pleased how it did achieve that flawless look as sometimes with lighter products you struggle to get an evenness. With a heavier foundation I probably didn’t find it as good although it’s all about putting it on in thin layers. So will I use it ?– yes I will. I will probably alternate it with my foundation brush depending on what sort of look and what sort of product I am using. Oh …. And it’s brilliant for using with creamy concealers under the eyes! So better late than never … and I am pleased I finally got around to the Beauty Blender.

I hope you enjoyed it for this week. Please let me know your thoughts on the Beauty Blender … oh and if you have been on a Date Night this week! I hope you have.
Love as Always
