Hi Lovelies

Welcome back to this week’s blog and as everything hots up for Christmas Becky and I were lucky enough to spend a couple of days in London mainly for meetings but we did get chance to window shop in Harrods and visit Oxford Street with the beautiful Christmas lights.  I know a lot of people have stayed away from London because of what happened in Paris, but I just feel like we have to carry on with our lives and so we carried on with our plans.  One of the treats that we had after feeling pretty tired from bag carrying and Christmas shopping was that we visited the amazing luxury BeautyBAR by Clarins which is in John Lewis on Oxford Street but just tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the store and London, to the side of the Clarins counter.

Clarins Beauty bar

The fantastic idea behind this is that you can have 30 minute treatments to quickly help you resolve whatever your beauty skin issue.  I had the amazing Revital Eyes as my eyes were just feeling so tired from London and after 30 minutes I left feeling brightened and tightened and refreshed.  Your hands get a lovely treatment in this one and there’s also a mini massage too!  I loved it and it’s only£25.  The best bit for me is that they put some make up back onto you so you can go back into the store and carry on shopping … you don’t feel too barefaced … if you are not comfortable with that.   She used some amazing mascara on me too!!!  Becky and I decided that we would be going back for more treatments when we are down in London as it was such a pick me up!

Now onto a little experiment that I have been doing for the last few months between the high end brand of La Prairie Cellular Hydrating Serum and the high street/drugstore Boots No 7 brand of Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum.  On the left hand side of my face I have been using the La Prairie (priced at £129.60 in John Lewis /£144.00 in Harrods!) and on the right hand side of my face Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum priced at £23.95.  My aim – to find out if it worth spending all that money on a serum, does it make a difference? Is it worth the extra spend?

So La Prairie’s packaging is a luxury looking pale blue and beautiful silver container and would look lovely in any bathroom.  It’s hard to find exactly what the ingredients are in La Prairie but it claims to be loaded with antioxidants and cell communicating ingredients to reproduce the look of healthy skin and the actual serum did make my skin feel soft and silky when applied.  The bottle would probably last you nearly a year and it is scented, but I didn’t mind that and I had no sensitive reaction to the product.

Boots No 7 protect

Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum claims to target and tackle fine lines and that it contains peptides such as the powerful Matrixyl 3000 Plus which is the next generation peptide to help your skin look younger.  It stimulates collagen and elastic reproduction so the results keep getting better with the more you use it.  The packaging is basic, and a tube that would probably last you 6 months?

Now for the interesting bit …… what did I think?  Feeling both sides of my skin and closing my eyes to really understand the difference …. Does the side with La Prairie feel softer and smoother …Yes…. Does it feel more plumped ?  ……Yes.  But how much ????? Not a huge, huge deal.  I want to be able to say oh my goodness my skin looks and feels out of this world with La Prairie, but I can’t … all I can say is that it is better.  If money was not in the equation then it’s definitely La Prairie … but in most people’s worlds it is going to be Boots No7, isn’t it, and it’s  been proven to be doing a great job …. so better to be using this than nothing at all!!!  Hehe …. now to even my face out for the next 6 months by switching sides with the products…!!!!!

Let’s get onto hair now and how in the winter, and also with dry, coloured hair, my hair needs all the help it can get!  Now here’s a lovely smelling oil from a brand that I love that contains macadamia, coconut and sweet almond oil …. ohhh that smell is gorgeous.  This lovely nourishing treatment oil for your hair can be used as a pre-wash treatment or the way I have been using it is after I have styled my hair, I pop a few drops on the top half of my fingers, rub both hands together and then sort of scrunch if on the ends and any curls or style I might have to help soften it and make it more glossy.

dove pure care dry oil

You think when you put oil on your hair that it is going to make it greasy or heavy, but not at all, the trick is not to use very much and if you suffer from the frizzies, then it will help de-frizz!  What a gorgeous, great priced nourishing treatment for hair in a bottle that will last simply ages and ages and I found it at Boots for £9.99.  Just can’t stop stroking my hair now hehe …..

So that’s it for this week, as I now rush around like all women out there going into some chaotic pre-Christmas state as I still have presents to buy, still have wrapping to do … and personally don’t I just hate those lovely ladies who have them all wrapped up by now!! (secretly I probably wish that I was one of those .. but why is it that my girlies just won’t get their Christmas lists organised until the last moment ….Aaaaaagh!) Love them really.

Lots of love and happy Christmas Shopping xx

Hello Lovelies

Back in Autumnal Nottingham this week so a bit of a change in the temperature and I totally haven’t seen the sunshine or any blue sky since we got back from our holidays. But, I love Autumn and the changing colours of the leaves, and the morning mists and the different light, and yes I have put the heating on occasionally (alright really occasionally then!).

One of the things when you have been to the gorgeous sunshine and also when you are going into the changing season is that my skin becomes drier, so it’s all about moisturising for me. This week I have been trying Dove’s Go Fresh Body Wash in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena – the one that I purchased from Boots and put in my recent haul. Apart from my eyesight being so bad at times hehe that I had thought it was Berry in scent, as I just loved the scent, Pomegranate was an interesting bonus. Anyway, it smells lovely and fruity, but it doesn’t linger so long that after the shower you can’t put your perfume on. This Body Wash claims to give you softer smoother skin after just one shower and me being the cynic that I am thought that is just not going to happen …. but I was really pleased and amazed to find that it did. I felt that I didn’t need to add my usual moisturiser afterwards. If you have really dry skin then you would probably want to, but I felt this was enough.

It’s a body wash that has mild cleansing agents which remove all the dirt, but still keep the skin’s natural moisture barrier. It’s a lovely pale pink in colour and lathers really well – you almost feel as though it is cuddling your body it is so soft. I even found that areas like my elbows, knees etc were softer too. One lovely subscriber said that she also uses it when she shaves her legs as it is so moisturising and I did think it would be lovely to do this with it as well. I have always loved Dove as a brand and this doesn’t disappoint – great quality and a great price. £2.59 from Boots but sometimes they do deals on it … so I will be waiting for that and stocking up!

Now matte finish lipsticks on me can perhaps not be the most flattering and when I was passing the Bourjois counter recently their Shine Lipsticks called out to me! This one comes in lovely modern packaging of a silver glossy shiny top and then a transparent shade indicator at the bottom, which I love. What’s more annoying that having several lipsticks and not being able to tell the colours until you open then up, and of course, when you do, it’s not the right one is it? So this is a great design for me.

It’s a really nourishing (mango butter) sheer balm that has shine but the pigment is stronger than a balm and it’s buildable so with 3 swipes I had some good colour on with it too.

bourjois hand shot

The colour I chose was no. 24 which is Rose xoxo but there was one there which is probably more Autumnal and that is Mauve Tabloid so that might be a purchase in the future. It feels lovely and buttery and comfortable on the lips and this shade is very much an everyday shade for me. Perhaps if your lips are quite pigmented, it wouldn’t be enough colour so you might want to go for the darker one, but there are also some great reds in the range too. On my lips it lasted about 4 hours and then I re-applied, and because it’s been so windy since I got back this is such a great lippie/balm to put on my lips to keep them hydrated. £7.99 from Boots.

Regular readers will know that I struggle with fine hair and am always trying products to help with volume. This lovely foam from Nioxin doesn’t contain any alcohol in the formulation and so is kind to the scalp, which I am totally in favour of.

I applied this to wet hair, not the scalp and really liked the fact that when I had blow dried my hair it did help with the volume and texture but still felt weightless, which again gets a tick from me. It adds dimension from inside the cuticle and also helps strengthen the hair. I would say it is definitely one of the better products for adding volume to my hair. When I looked it was £13.50 from Look Fantastic and also on Amazon.

I was going to talk about the Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Polish which I purchased before I went away as it is just such a great Autumn and Winter colour and then someone mentioned that you needed to buy the Sunset Daylight Curing Top Coat for this to fully work … so that’s a purchase for tomorrow and will be in next week’s Blog!

I love the look of it … only painted one nail at the moment though haha. Full update on that next week! ……

Lots of love to you all and have a great week.

Beauty, Hair, Make Up, Nails

Welcome back Lovelies

This Friday has found me back in the UK and positively shivering when I returned … what has happened to our temperatures? We have truly gone into Autumn and I need to be doing some serious thinking about planning an Autumn wardrobe as last year I didn’t buy very much and have very few sweaters to see me through. My problem is I am a “throw on a dress and some heels” kinda gal! Going to be shivering a lot then! Does everyone feel like that when they get back from somewhere fairly warm … put the heating on and how are we going to survive haha? I haven’t actually put the heating on yet, but I have an Aga in my kitchen which I have kept going on low all year round as I can’t bear to be cold. I had a great time in France at the World Rowing Champs where I am pleased to say GB came first in the medals section, so it was exciting times and great to catch up with so many people. Here’s a little shot of the beautiful Lake Aiguebelette on the day my nephew was rowing (for Australia actually).

Now onto some beauty and how would you feel about using a nail polish that is probably the most moisturising I have ever used and doesn’t leave yellow staining on your nail? As you readers will know, I love nail polish and use many brands but trying this latest one by Eve Snow has been different. Right from the glossy way that the polish looked and the richness of colour, I knew that this was different from a lot of brands and the reason for this is that it contains Vitamin E, Argan Oil and Ginkgo Biloba whose properties help to nourish the nail and it is also a brand with fewer toxins in too.

eve snow varnish

I tried this out on my nails a few days before a trip to France where I wanted a nice coral colour to show off my toes and the shade I have is Sunrise Glow. It goes on beautifully and you could almost get away with one coat, but because I was going away for a while I applied two. Ten days on, it still looks glossy and rich in colour, is only very slightly chipped and my nails look and feel so much healthier than a normal varnish would leave them. My toes love it and I am super impressed. Brought out by a 26 year old girl who could obviously see a gap in the market for a great product, which has won a few beauty awards and also give back a percentage of the profits to charity. They sell it in Boots and Marks and Spencers and there is a pretty good colour range too – something for everyone and for each season and it is £14. I am definitely going to be buying an Autumnal shade to try and this one will make it onto my fingernails too!

Now I can be glam, but I also like cute and my daughters knew that I would love this compact when they brought it me from the US. So many blushers come in clumpy boxy containers and this lovely new range from Too Faced comes in a gorgeous sweetheart packaging design which opens up to include a cute heart mirror and a sweet rabbit design within the blush which makes it a fun addition in my make up bag as it is perfect for travelling as well. Don’t you find, that along with the lipstick the blusher is not far behind to fade, and this new one from Too Faced lasts all day once you have applied it.

too faced love flush

The colour I have it in is called Baby Love and is a lovely natural looking blush with a hint (and only a hint) of a gold shimmer in it, making it a perfect blush for the Autumn/Winter and one which would suit all skin tones. It’s really pigmented, so don’t be heavy handed when applying this otherwise you will get a bit of a shock and the blush is super soft to the touch, so really luxurious too. It’s the kind of blush that you would wear every day and it would give you a lovely glow and one which makes me smile every time I take it out of my make up bag.

How many times have I admired this little beauty as a gorgeous palette of finishing powders and finally I succumbed and purchased one a few weeks ago. Firstly, it still is the one of the loveliest beauty products that I own and every time I open it I can’t wait to use it. It’s expensive, yes, I know, but not only is the case beautiful and the product inside but I love the effect that it has on my complexion. Designed to give you that ‘glow from within’, that ‘basking in the glow of candlelight’ look and without any airbrushing, this palette contains 3 beautiful powders to try. A friend of mine mixes them all together and applies it all over her skin to give it that soft glow that we all love, but I play about with mine a little bit more, but it is entirely up to you as to what effect you like.

hourglass ambient

There are three powders within the palette – Dim, Incandescent and Radiant. Dim is a good match for my fair skin tone with just a hint of warmth, a soft beige which works on cool or warm tones and helps to blur any pores, Incandescent has a glow quality for areas that you want to highlight such as cheekbones, tops of eyebrows, bridge of nose etc, and Radiant is a golden beige that adds more warmth to a complexion and I either apply it with a flat foundation brush or a stippling highlighter brush. Finely milled and perfect for mature skin to give me that dewy glow of youth! I purchased mine from Space NK and have never looked back!

For someone that has pretty fine, limp hair – the struggle for volume and weightlessness within a product is quite hard to find so when I found Dove’s Oxygen Moisture Souffle Treatment for fine, flat hair, I thought this had my name on it so hey …. give it a go. Anything with the word ‘souffle’ in and I am hooked – a bit like I would choose a double cooked cheese souffle for a starter at meals. Yum. But hey, let’s get back to the hair… We all have so many issues with our hair that we are trying to deal with and what style we are trying to achieve and so it is usually for me a combination of products which are combined to help me to do this.

dove oygen moisture souffle

It comes in a shallow round tub and is indeed a light, mousse consistency and after shampooing I leave it for 5 minutes in my hair. (the smell is lovely). Although I am initially quite concerned that a product this light will have enough of a moisturising effect I am pleased to say that it does on me feel beautifully light and smooth and soft and with so much more volume than I would have using other shampoos and conditioners. I am thinking that this is a great summer treatment and probably one I will alternate with a richer one in the winter. There is a shampoo and conditioner within the range and I will certainly purchase those to try next time but in the meantime I definitely feel myself stroking my soft, fluffier hair more (that’s probably very annoying to lots of people!)

Hope you have enjoyed the products this week and lots of love.

Beauty, Hair, Skincare, Summer

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to this week’s blog, sorry it’s a bit late up today, but it has been a bit of a crazy week in lots of ways. This week finds us enjoying some gorgeous Summer weather in between the rain showers (oh well helps the garden grow!) Becky, Holly and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend a wedding in the Cotswolds for one of their dear friends from growing up who we have known since he was about 4 so it was such a fun day and a chance to get glammed up and get emotional (got the waterproof mascara on!) as they walked down the aisle. I just love Weddings with family and friends together to celebrate such a happy event. Little photo from it to show you what we all wore – Becky was one of the bridesmaids too. We had an amazing time and danced the night away. Not too sore a head in the morning!… Click below to continue reading.
