Hi Lovelies

Welcome back to this week’s blog and as everything hots up for Christmas Becky and I were lucky enough to spend a couple of days in London mainly for meetings but we did get chance to window shop in Harrods and visit Oxford Street with the beautiful Christmas lights.  I know a lot of people have stayed away from London because of what happened in Paris, but I just feel like we have to carry on with our lives and so we carried on with our plans.  One of the treats that we had after feeling pretty tired from bag carrying and Christmas shopping was that we visited the amazing luxury BeautyBAR by Clarins which is in John Lewis on Oxford Street but just tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the store and London, to the side of the Clarins counter.

Clarins Beauty bar

The fantastic idea behind this is that you can have 30 minute treatments to quickly help you resolve whatever your beauty skin issue.  I had the amazing Revital Eyes as my eyes were just feeling so tired from London and after 30 minutes I left feeling brightened and tightened and refreshed.  Your hands get a lovely treatment in this one and there’s also a mini massage too!  I loved it and it’s only£25.  The best bit for me is that they put some make up back onto you so you can go back into the store and carry on shopping … you don’t feel too barefaced … if you are not comfortable with that.   She used some amazing mascara on me too!!!  Becky and I decided that we would be going back for more treatments when we are down in London as it was such a pick me up!

Now onto a little experiment that I have been doing for the last few months between the high end brand of La Prairie Cellular Hydrating Serum and the high street/drugstore Boots No 7 brand of Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum.  On the left hand side of my face I have been using the La Prairie (priced at £129.60 in John Lewis /£144.00 in Harrods!) and on the right hand side of my face Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum priced at £23.95.  My aim – to find out if it worth spending all that money on a serum, does it make a difference? Is it worth the extra spend?

So La Prairie’s packaging is a luxury looking pale blue and beautiful silver container and would look lovely in any bathroom.  It’s hard to find exactly what the ingredients are in La Prairie but it claims to be loaded with antioxidants and cell communicating ingredients to reproduce the look of healthy skin and the actual serum did make my skin feel soft and silky when applied.  The bottle would probably last you nearly a year and it is scented, but I didn’t mind that and I had no sensitive reaction to the product.

Boots No 7 protect

Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum claims to target and tackle fine lines and that it contains peptides such as the powerful Matrixyl 3000 Plus which is the next generation peptide to help your skin look younger.  It stimulates collagen and elastic reproduction so the results keep getting better with the more you use it.  The packaging is basic, and a tube that would probably last you 6 months?

Now for the interesting bit …… what did I think?  Feeling both sides of my skin and closing my eyes to really understand the difference …. Does the side with La Prairie feel softer and smoother …Yes…. Does it feel more plumped ?  ……Yes.  But how much ????? Not a huge, huge deal.  I want to be able to say oh my goodness my skin looks and feels out of this world with La Prairie, but I can’t … all I can say is that it is better.  If money was not in the equation then it’s definitely La Prairie … but in most people’s worlds it is going to be Boots No7, isn’t it, and it’s  been proven to be doing a great job …. so better to be using this than nothing at all!!!  Hehe …. now to even my face out for the next 6 months by switching sides with the products…!!!!!

Let’s get onto hair now and how in the winter, and also with dry, coloured hair, my hair needs all the help it can get!  Now here’s a lovely smelling oil from a brand that I love that contains macadamia, coconut and sweet almond oil …. ohhh that smell is gorgeous.  This lovely nourishing treatment oil for your hair can be used as a pre-wash treatment or the way I have been using it is after I have styled my hair, I pop a few drops on the top half of my fingers, rub both hands together and then sort of scrunch if on the ends and any curls or style I might have to help soften it and make it more glossy.

dove pure care dry oil

You think when you put oil on your hair that it is going to make it greasy or heavy, but not at all, the trick is not to use very much and if you suffer from the frizzies, then it will help de-frizz!  What a gorgeous, great priced nourishing treatment for hair in a bottle that will last simply ages and ages and I found it at Boots for £9.99.  Just can’t stop stroking my hair now hehe …..

So that’s it for this week, as I now rush around like all women out there going into some chaotic pre-Christmas state as I still have presents to buy, still have wrapping to do … and personally don’t I just hate those lovely ladies who have them all wrapped up by now!! (secretly I probably wish that I was one of those .. but why is it that my girlies just won’t get their Christmas lists organised until the last moment ….Aaaaaagh!) Love them really.

Lots of love and happy Christmas Shopping xx

Hello Again Lovelies

How quickly did that week go? I measure my life by Fridays and when I write this blog. This week has probably been one of the quietest ones that I have had for a while, but refreshingly so, as I have had chance to actually think for a few minutes whilst walking the puppies which is so important for us all, as I think about my blog, vlog, life, goals for the future, and just being happy in my skin. I did read an article today about Helen Mirren who on reaching 70 not only said that it was “f’ing awesome” (didn’t think she quite needed to word it like that ha ha), but that the great thing about getting older was that you basically didn’t care what others thought of you. In a way I suppose I agree, in the sense that you lose a lot of the insecurities that can be so much a part of your life in your 20’s and early 30’s and you accept who you are and become so much happier with that. Smiling as I write this …..

So what have I been trying and using this week?

My skin as it has aged has become more combination with an oil T-zone which sometimes I struggle to keep blemish free. You think as you get older that these hormonal problems are over but in fact your hormones are changing so much that it can be almost like going back to being a teenager! As part of a drugstore skincare routine I have been using for the past few weeks I have been trying the Garnier Pure Active Miscellar Water which is for combination to oily skin and sensitive skin so mine fits into this. The other part of my face is slightly towards the drier spectrum and so sometimes I use a cleanser specifically for this but sometimes I am just using this Garnier all over if I can’t be bothered to use 2 cleansers!
Garnier pure active

It’s £3.33 for 400ml which gives you 200 uses, so how economic is that? I just put it on cotton wool pads and find that it is great at removing a full face of make up and for removing mascara such as Maybelline Lash Sensational or suchlike as I just soak the Garnier into the cotton wool pad and then leave it on my eyes for a few seconds. In the morning the Garnier is perfect for mattifying my skin in order to be able to help my foundation stay perfect for as long as possible. So although you think this product is aimed at teenagers, it’s amazing how it all comes back to you. I use this product for a while, get my blemishes under control and then move back to a product that deals with more normal to dry skin, but in the summer I do suffer more from the oiliness.

Firstly think Kate Moss and you think about that “I don’t want to look like I am trying look” and then think Nudes, well they go with everything and a nude nail polish will certainly go with any outfit and see why the collaboration between Rimmel Nudes and Kate Moss is so successful. When I tried to buy some of the collection to do a video I was struggling to obtain the shades in both nail polishes and lipsticks … so it’s obviously a winner. She has brought out five lipsticks and some nail polishes which I shall review in next week’s blog, but I have done a video this week on a Nude look for me using these products so go have a look if you are interested. I managed to purchase 3 shades of lipstick all of which were very creamy and beautiful to apply.

rimmel nude lipsticks

Starting with no42 – the lightest of all, this shade is just lighter than my lips and would suit the classic English Rose complexion, then no 43 the next shade which is absolutely my favourite which has a slightly more blue tone and I think looked the best on me and then 48 which is a rich chocolatey, berry sort of colour which looked quite scary at first but on me looked fine on me and I actually liked for an evening colour. Not naturally being a nudes kinda gal … this helped change my opinion to realise that I might be able to wear them after all! They are £5.49 and in Boots and Superdrug.

Famous more for its hair products than its Body Wash, most people will know the great conditioner that they do, but seeing an advert on the TV, I decided I would try this out and also leave it in the shower for my husband and stepsons to use .. in fact whoever used the shower that week! (could have been anyone!)

With most of the contents used and asking them their thoughts too the general consensus seemed to be that it is really pleasant to use, slightly fruity, it lathers up really well in the shower and leaves your skin feeling really clean (I know that’s an odd thing to say but some products don’t leave your feeling like that do they?). It contains Eucalyptus extract which helps to condition your skin, without the product costing the earth as some body washes are cheaper, aren’t they, but they certainly aren’t conditioning your skin too. I found it in Superdrug for £2.99.

So now let’s move onto Hair, and I am continually fighting a battle with keeping my hair moisturised, as I colour it, and then add to that sunshine (some of you will have had more than others as we haven’t seen that much of it in the UK lately), wind, swimming in a swimming pool on your hols, and your hair can be left a bit dull and dry. So when they were giving away samples of Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Shampoo (hence the smaller size in the photo) – I thought I would give this a try.

Within a single shampooing I noticed a difference in my hair – which was certainly softer, smoother and silkier haha .. I felt like I was in some TV ad, swooshing my hair all around …I am always worried that putting oil into a shampoo can make it greasy but this didn’t at all, just making it silky and this is down to the African Macadamia Oil in it. Now I personally wouldn’t be using this all the time as it almost makes mine too silky and therefore flat, but if you have lovely curls or if you like your hair straight then this would be a perfect product for you. For me it’s a little pick me up occasionally in between my other shampoos. Lovely product though. LOVE This.

Moving on from the Dove shampoo, you will know that I suffer with flat hair that lacks that oomph factor, and I know I am not alone in that. Sometimes volume gives me a miss as I have fine hair and lots of it and because I am looking to sometimes glam it up, I am always looking for products that will volumise my hair. So….. enter gorgeous pink can from VO5 with a spray in it that you spray into dry hair, including the roots, then you give it some jujjjjjjj ? with your fingers (that indescribable scrunchy motion that you make with your fingers to give some volume) or you can use a back-combing comb with it to achieve ultimate glamour and volume.

It’s a great product and I am amazed at how simple it is to change your hair and doesn’t leave any nasty residue behind either . For a more casual look I have actually used this on towel dried hair – sprayed it into the roots etc and then dried my hair with my head upside down (this is a great way to get volume into your roots). What a gem of a find this one is.

Now let’s do some loveliness and let me just go all gooey and swoon over my latest Summer Perfume. I was feeling like spoiling myself and have never purchased any Prada perfumes before and I spied 3 of them in the Prada Candy range. Looking beautiful, the 3 of them on a gorgeous perfume podium, I had to smell all 3 of them of course. My favourite of them all turned out to be the Prada Candy “Kiss” Florale. Firstly let’s talk about the scent. I don’t like anything too floral and this one certainly isn’t. Think Peony (OMG my favourite flower) with a touch of sweetness (not too much) and then it’s got top notes of Limoncello (haha got to be good, hasn’t it ?) which makes it a little bit fresh too which is what I like. Apparently it’s inspired, as only the Italians could, by a bouquet of flowers standing on an ice cream counter. You got me here …. Italian ice cream … to die for of course … and the gorgeous scent of peonies. I am there and want to live there … in fact I want to visit that Italian ice cream shop now! You will get by now how I am totally into the imagery and as I spritz it onto my neck, wrist and clothing and one for good luck (you never know who might be hugging you and they will love this!) I am totally transported to that beautiful Italian life … haha I can’t even speak a word of Italian. But I love Italians.

prada candy florale

Anyone can wear this perfume and enjoy its gorgeousness – it will truly lift your spirits on a rainy summer’s day and it’s not an age thing, both younger and not so young will love this. So, ok, scent done, let’s just take a moment to talk about the swoon worthy ? (not sure if that is a word) packaging on this little beauty. From the gorgeous box with the lovely pink lips all over it to the lovely luxurious gold Prada wording to when you lift out this BEAUT-IFUL bottle. I love the gorgeous round shape of it – it feels wonderful to hold, the pink toned glass making it feel nice and weighty too and the lovely gold PRADA lettering standing proud of the bottle. It does look a little bottle of luxury. They certainly know how do design, don’t they? It looks so pretty on my bathroom on my shelf and I am so loving using it and wearing it. Yes, this is Summer – my favourite time of the year.

So that’s it for this week’s round up of Beauty Items and I hope you have enjoyed it. Does anyone else like this Prada perfume as much as me ?

Couldn’t resist this cute photo of the puppies asleep side by side ….Awwww xx

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to this week’s blog, sorry it’s a bit late up today, but it has been a bit of a crazy week in lots of ways. This week finds us enjoying some gorgeous Summer weather in between the rain showers (oh well helps the garden grow!) Becky, Holly and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend a wedding in the Cotswolds for one of their dear friends from growing up who we have known since he was about 4 so it was such a fun day and a chance to get glammed up and get emotional (got the waterproof mascara on!) as they walked down the aisle. I just love Weddings with family and friends together to celebrate such a happy event. Little photo from it to show you what we all wore – Becky was one of the bridesmaids too. We had an amazing time and danced the night away. Not too sore a head in the morning!… Click below to continue reading.

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to this week’s blog … written in the passenger seat of the car hehe in a super busy week. My mini crisis this week was forgetting my phone when the girls and I went to London on business . Life has become so dependent around smart phones hasn’t it and I was smiling to myself about my anxiety about not having my phone.. not being able to contact anyone .. ridiculous really, but it’s where I am at! Apologies for the blog being slightly later up in the day but I have just got back from Ladies Day at Ascot – how I love people watching at this glamorous event. We so love our hats at Ascot and I went along with the trend of hats on Ladies Day! It is such a great event and if you can ever go to it I would really recommend it. I also managed to do a bit of celeb spotting!! (Always exciting!)

Hello Lovelies and another week passed ….This week saw us driving down to see an old friend who actually isn’t very well and so I am making the most of the chances to see him whilst he is still ok. Friends are so important in life aren’t they … so it was an opportunity to put on a nice dress and go out for some Saturday lunch at one of our cute English pubs.

This week also saw me trying to do some physio exercises after 3 months of not exercising very much with my back. I went to see a great physio but I had to laugh as I literally couldn’t move the next day after doing the exercises she gave me …. my shoulders and neck were in agony and when she said do a press up …well that was hilarious …you know when you are really trying to do something … and nothing happens … well that was my press up! I seem to have lost a lot of strength in my arms and it certainly gives me a bit of a wake up call that as we age we probably need to exercise differently. So a friend of mine advised me to bathe in Epsom Salts to help with the muscle ache and I must admit, I really did feel much better after that, but the exercises are just something that I need to do bit by bit to build my fitness back up. I have an interesting one to do where I have to hold a broom handle with both hands behind my head!!!

The other bit of gossip is that I finally have made my first YouTube video and will be putting that up next Tuesday. I was really nervous and also a bit excited about doing it … and I know loads of you have asked me to do some …. so I really hope you will subscribe to it and watch my channel. It’s Growing Old Disgracefully on YouTube…. there’s a surprise!!!

So on to the beauty ……!

Hello again lovelies,

Welcome to this week’s blog and another week in the life of ……. So to start of course, we had the lovely Mother’s Day, which I absolutely adore and I hope all you Mums out there were massively spoilt too on our special day. My girls arrived to cook my husband and I brunch which we thought was fantastic … so salmon and scrambled eggs and wonderful bacon etc were produced and devoured around our kitchen table. They arrived with a very large parcel (and the puppies of course to wish me Happy Mother’s Day) and my first thoughts were that it was an enormous picture – say a huge family photo of us all and I was beginning to wonder where I was going to put this enormous photo …. but when I opened the box, ha ha ….. it turned out to be a Queen of Mums Throne, which I needed to construct (supplied by the Body Shop to various Mums ) and then sit on and be treated like a Queen all day …. well, it did say constructed in 20 minutes, but if you have ever had the pleasure of building flat pack you will be well aware that it takes at least double that time, which indeed this did and it took 3 of us to work out how to assemble it. Anyway, it was a bit of fun, amongst the disagreement of which pieces went where and you can see the photo below … Needless to say I was treated like a Queen all day long.
