Anti ageing, Beauty

Hi Lovelies

I don’t know about you, but as I age, the most important thing to me is the skin on my face … it’ s what everyone looks at and it’s not hidden away under clothes. As we age we all develop more fine lines and wrinkles and changes in texture of our skin and for me some age spots too and I also have larger pores now and a slight reddish complexion (the joys of ageing!). I am a huge fan of the beauty products that we can put on the outer layers or our skin to help hold back that ageing process, but I have also been to salons and had IPL treatment in the past to help with my fine red capillaries on my face. In fact, I had one awful experience where one salon I went to she actually burnt my face and it blistered up because she had the laser too high, even though I advised her I had sensitive skin.

So the thought of trying a laser that you can control yourself and use at home certainly seemed like a good idea to me. I have been using the Tria Age Defying Laser for 8 weeks, every evening and then the programme is to give your skin 4 weeks off.

It has 3 levels of laser and I started off on the lightest of them all for a week then working up to level 2 and eventually I made it to level 3. After cleansing you just smooth the laser over the 4 zones of your face (they give you a diagram to follow) and it all just takes a few minutes before bedtime. The only slight inconvenience that I had was a slight redness but that disappears overnight. I have been pretty disciplined about using this most nights (apart from the odd night when I have just been ill or so shattered that I just collapsed in bed!) The laser sends messages into the lower layers of your skin and gives the cells a good kick up the backside so to speak and encourages them to renew and create new cells and collagen which as we all know is what helps your skin to look younger and also more plumped up.

So how have I found it? Well certainly some of my very fine lines seem to have diminished and my pores do seem to be a bit smaller and most of all my complexion seems much more even which makes me so happy. I have to say the redness on my cheeks and chin seem to be all calming down as well. Overall I am really pleased with it and feel that I will probably be using this for the rest of my life lol!!!! although I think the battery lasts about 3 years. This product needs discipline! and needs good long term use to let it work at its best. It comes at a price (the cheapest I saw it for was £442), which I know seems like such a lot to shell out for a product, but this is a laser and it will last you for years and certainly has given me some amazing benefits, and compared to a salon is literally a lot lot cheaper. But most of all, some skincare products are so expensive and will never be able to achieve the same results as this laser .. and yet people spend a fortune on their skincare. I am certainly going to be a lifelong fan of this and probably even using it in the old folks home when I am 90!!! I will have the best skin of everyone lol!!!!

Oh my gosh …. the rain!!!!! The rain has been so awful in June here in the UK, hasn’t it and we are set to have the wettest June on record. So as I look down at my arms and body, it makes me a little bit happier, a little bit brighter if my body has some tan on it. Everything looks better with a slight tan, doesn’t it? One of the problems that I sometimes have with a body self tanner though is whether I can put my moisturiser on before it, or after it, and so products like the Clarins Radiance Plus Golden Glow Booster for my body are a game changer. It comes in a 30ml bottle which says it lasts for 3 months and the idea is that for a gradual tan ( someone who doesn’t use much tan) puts say 2 drops in with the moisturiser on their hand and rubs that into their body to add a bit of warmth and radiance to their body and then probably tops this up every 4 days.

If however, you are someone like me who likes self tan on in the summer then I applied it daily for a week in my moisturiser (I am currently using Garnier Oil infused Restoring Lotion) and then this combination gives me that “I am fresh back from a bit of a break in Ibiza” look …. and I top it up every 3 days.

Love that it is so easy and that there is no smell to it, which again is great for sensitive skin too and that there are no orangey tones or streaks meaning that you can customise your beautiful tan. Possibly the best thing of all though is that you can put this into whichever moisturiser you feel like using at the time, meaning no dry or dehydrated skin which can sometimes happen to me when I use other self tanners.

Plus I can easily take this on holiday too to start off with a bit of colour. The cheapest I found it was £20.80 online.

Thats it my lovelies. Please comment below if any of you have used the Tria Laser over a long period of time.

With love …… Gill xxxxx

Anti ageing, Beauty

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to this week’s blog and update on my life and beauty! This last week I had some lovely friends over for dinner on the Saturday night and enjoyed doing lots of cooking, which I often don’t have the time to do (as I am sure you find too) .. but it was fun to be able to plan a really lovely meal and make some gorgeous food for my friends. I always so appreciate anything anyone makes for me as I understand the time and effort that goes into creating food for friends. This is a little photo of one of the desserts that I made which was actually Mary Berry’s chocolate mousse and I served it in some Royal Albert china cups which I actually borrowed from Becky. I thought that it was a cute idea to serve them like this and the mousse tasted really amazing (I love chocolate), but wasn’t too much for a dessert.

Let’s get onto some beauty products that I have been trying this last week…

Everyone knows the iconic YSL Touche Eclat and how that changed how we highlight today and YSL have now reformulated their foundation with a fantastic improvement I would say. I must confess that I really didn’t get on with the first foundation they brought out as I found it too dewy and oily for my more mature skin and so was slightly cautious about trying the new formulation, but I was able to obtain a tester from Debenhams when they first came out and got matched up for the Spring/Summer with BR40. They have a fantastic range of 22 shades and the B stands for Beige and the R for rose, being perfect for a slightly pinky toned skin like mine. In the winter I would probably drop back to a BR30. The promise is to give that fresh faced look of 8 hours sleep using catchlight technology, anti fatigue complex and lots of ingredients including vitamin E to help the skin be less tired. I really love a foundation that actually helps the skin too. As we age we need more and more help evening out the tone and brightening it so I was keen to try this.

This foundation is designed to give more intense coverage than the previous one, as well as looking and feeling light and natural which is certainly what I am looking for. The main problem area for me is covering redness and I found that it did this beautifully and that I barely needed much concealer – I did use an under eye concealer but even without it the YSL did a great job of brightening that area. So it evened out my redness (yaaay!) and I only added powder down my t-zone and slightly onto my cheeks where my pores are larger now. I love the slight glow that it gives you (it’s not too much) and with the increased coverage, and lasting longer than the previous one, it’s perfect when you want that flawless look. This is my latest go-to foundation and I am loving it. Ooh and I apply it with a brush. You could use a beauty blender but I sometimes find that uses more product and with this being quite an expensive foundation, then you want to make sure it lasts as long as possible! I got mine at Debenhams for £29.25

ysl top shot

What a gem of a find this is? How much do I love a product that does more than one thing? And one that is great to carry around in your handbag for touch ups at in that late afternoon time slot before you are going out after work for drinks with friends ???

EL perfectionist

This product claims to be “youth infusing” .. oh yes lets have some of that! with a corrector/concealer at one end and a brightening serum at the other. I swipe the creamy concealer end under my eyes and find it conceals any dark circles that I have and then gently blend that in with my warm fingers and love that it is really hydrating for that delicate under eye area and that the concealer is really long wearing too. It is a lovely really lightweight concealer too and comes in some great shades. I also use it on areas of redness or any odd spot that I might have.

ysl perfectionist1

Then I take the brightening serum end and apply this on my eye socket bone and take that out to the side of the eyes. The serum is lovely to apply and helps to smooth the appearance of fine lines and it has colour correcting optics in it which again help to even out skintone and brighten any shadowy areas that I may have.

el perfectionist 2

Although called a highlighter, I would call it more of an illuminator as it hasn’t got as much shimmer as a liquid highlighter and it lifts the eye area and brightens the skin without being pearlescent, which in daytime might be too much.

I love it and literally carry it in my handbag all the time as I find it is an instant touch up/pick me up to the eye area and the face and love the fact that it is a two in one product.

That’s it for this week – a quick pic of me just before the guests arrived last week.

Love to you all as always and thanks so much for reading xx

Hi Lovelies

OMG!!! Time is really flying now and it’s nearly Valentine’s Day ……… Whether you have a partner, boyfriend, or husband it’s about spending time with someone that is special to you. This weekend my husband and I are lucky enough to be going away to the city of Glasgow, staying in the lovely Grand Central Hotel there and going to the restaurants and sights of this city. My husband’s family is originally from there so it will be particularly special for him too … so yes ….. I’m excited!!

Anyway, New Year, … changes, and most of you know from reading my blog that I have quite fine hair and am always trying to get more volume into my hair. I am sure a lot of you reading this have fine hair and whether you have always had fine hair or whether it is due to that lovely ageing process which can thin the hair, well I decided that I would have extensions or enhancements as I prefer to call them, to thicken my hair. The majority of enhancements that the salon fits are for women 40 plus upwards to 75 years! Why not!!!

Lots of people think that having extensions is to give them length, which of course they can do, but it is also for thickness. I went along to a salon in Nottingham called M Hair, who specialise in hair extensions from Great Lengths and had a consultation with the lovely James who advised me on colour and length and then shortly afterwards I had the enhancements fitted.

great lengths

Now although I do have longer hair, I would be equally happy to have enhancements in shorter hair too, a bob for example, just to give me a bit of volume. My only concern was whether I would feel the enhancements in my hair, and actually if I would be able to sleep with them in, but amazingly, the system that they use with Great Lengths enhancements has unique bonds which are kind to the scalp and lay flat, as opposed to some that I have seen in other salons where it is a circular bond, so after having these fitted and as I cautiously put my head on the pillow that night, I was so pleased that I didn’t really feel them at all and had a great night’s sleep! (Sleep is so important!). What do they feel like? To be honest the quality is amazing, probably the best there is and I can’t tell the difference between my own hair and the enhancements.

hair extensions

What’s it like to wash it? Well you have to use shampoos which are kind to the bonds, but I use a good shampoo and conditioner anyway, and to dry it …. well I blot the hair with a towel and wrap it up in a towel to remove the excess moisture and then blow dry my hair as normal, using a special paddle brush. How pleased am I with the result? I absolutely LOVE it for the extra volume that they give me and also love the whole quality behind the brand with not only it’s ethical sourcing, but at whatever point I have these enhancements removed then M Hair came up with the idea of donating them to be made into wigs for children who are suffering from alopecia and cancer … what an amazing idea. So I am super happy with my new look.

I can’t do a Valentine’s Blog and not have a to die for red lipstick in there to create those kissable lips. This year my lips will be adorned with the utterly lovely new lipstick from Guerlain that I picked up in London this week at the House of Fraser. They have dedicated an entire make up collection to its La Petite Robe Noir fragrance and the shop was full of huge displays advertising it for Valentines.

guerlain la petite robe

There are 20 lipsticks, so one for everyone and 8 nail polishes. The packaging is adorable and beautifully creative with a lovely upside down heart on the top which you twist to propel the bullet. I also love the fact that it is see through so that you can see the colour – it makes it so much easier to select your lippie for the night.

guerlain close up

I love a shiny lipstick and this one doesn’t disappoint with its lovely balmy and moisturising texture and can either be worn sheer or layered up for intensity, which is the way I wear it. Berry Beret is my colour of choice and it’s a gorgeous red with pink undertones and also a slightly fruity fragrance. A gorgeous choice for the lips and also for the make up bag, as it’s a joy to use. Love it!!! It’s £21.50 from House of Fraser.

Have an amazing Valentines Day if you are out on a date night …. and even if you aren’t then make sure you do something nice ….xx

Lots of Love and let me know in the comments what you are doing on Valentines Night.

Hey Lovelies

It feels like a while since I sat down to Blog and that’s mainly because I find January such a hard month to get excited about. I employ all my survival tactics to get me through … but even then it seems just like such a long, hard month, doesn’t it and to add to that, this last week the girl’s grandma was ill for a few days in hospital and then passed away, which has been such a sad thing for them to bear and has meant long hours in hospitals and waves of sadness at the passing of such a feisty lady who we thought would live forever! So I have been doing my Momma thing and trying to support them in whatever way I can.

So I am beginning to pull out of this … and wanted to tell you about what I have been trying this week. I have never really worn glasses, not until a few years ago when I just thought my eyes were tired and it turned out they were permanently tired and I needed reading glasses and a bit of distance! Anyway, this week, saw me excitedly picking up my new glasses from Specsavers which is where I always go, and this time I went for designer glasses that Twiggy has launched for Aurora.

gill glasses

There are several within the range, but I went for a lovely pair of deep fuchsia pink glasses that are slightly cat eye in shape (which I think is very flattering), and then to glam them up a bit more, as sometimes, glasses can be a bit plain, can’t they, well these have got beautiful crystals down the sides of them ….. so pretty. Even the Aurora case for them has got a pretty diamante in it. I hope you can see the detail in the photo I took.

close up glasses

Twiggy is such an icon, isn’t she, and I think it’s fabulous that she has helped design her own range of glasses. They are really comfortable and light to wear so I don’t really feel like I am wearing glasses, because I do have a bit of a hate feeling around glasses! I am super happy with them and have them on at this very moment, whilst typing this! They will certainly be worn a lot!! I hope you like them on me too and mine were £125 from Specsavers.

To help cope with the lack of sleep in the past week, and basically anytime that the area under your eyes needs a good sorting out ….. I reach for these amazing little babies. Oh my goodness … each sachet contains two crescent shaped eye patches that you literally just stick under your eyes. All the celebs wear them before an event and certainly if you were up early in the morning – that early morning flight you have to catch or that early morning presentation you have to do and you want to look your best then you would pop these on for 10 minutes.

(Grab a cuppa whilst they are performing their amazingness! ) They are full of gorgeous marine hyaluronic acids and amazing for plumping up those little wrinkles and smoothing out that under eye area. They work even better if they are kept in the fridge too! Your eyes feel incredibly rested afterwards as well. The best place I find them is Feel Unique, £28 for a box of 8 pairs. I think I could be addicted to these …. as I am definitely not a morning person hehe ….

Now here’s a different little primer that I have been loving….. a lovely creamy, liquid primer that has a pearlescent finish to it and added colour to bring a lovely healthy glow to skin tones. It feels really silky smooth to apply and definitely helps even out my skin tone and help the foundation that I put on the top stay locked on!

laura mercier primer

If you had amazing skin then you would even love to wear this on its own to give your skin a subtle glow but I use it as a great base for my foundation and this little primer also has a few anti-oxidants in it, which most of them don’t. Not enough to get over excited about but at least it is helping and it also has oils to nourish the skin. A multi-tasking primer! Like it!

Now … when I saw these … I immediately knew that I was going to love them. As someone who has tried false lashes and just can’t get on with them, finds them uncomfortable and just hasn’t the time to mess around with all that glue … someone must have been watching me .. because that is why Ardell have brought out such an amazing product. Press on Lashes! Apparently the main blockages to women wearing false lashes is Time, and Difficulty of Application. That’s Me!!!!!

Hollywood Movie Magic launched the false eyelash trend in 1916 and women wanted to look the same as their screen idols but Ardell didn’t get going until 1971. My daughter Holly loves Ardell – their Wispies, and I frequently put them in her Xmas stocking or give her them along with her birthday present as I know she loves them and will use them. Her eyes look amazing with them, but I just couldn’t get on with the ones that she uses, so you can understand my excitement that actually now I might be able to sometimes. These press ons are exactly for people like me who don’t wear them every day – I might wear them to a special event or birthday party and the problem with that is that I never practise with the glue and don’t have the technical skills to apply. No problem with these – you just peel them out of the box with your tweezers, making sure they are about the right length for your eyes and if not trim a little bit off the length. Then position them on the lash line and give the eyelashes a squeeze all the way along to make sure they have stuck.

I can’t tell you how easy these are to apply – no fumbling around with the glue and struggling because of my not so good eyesight! These strips are far more comfortable and cushioning than the normal ones too and so for sensitive eyes like mine they are amazing. To remove them, you just peel them off – no pain! Apparently you can buy glue strips from somewhere to re-apply to be able to use these again but at the moment I haven’t found any so please let me know if you know of where I can purchase some.

There is no doubt that these Ardell lashes, in fact most false lashes in general, do make your eyes look fabulous … and that’s how we want to look, isn’t it girlies?? I got mine from Superdrug £8.45. Not cheap, I know, but if it’s a special occasion and you haven’t worn them before then you want to be trying these lovely comfy ones instead of some of the others, and if I can find the glue strips then you could probably use these for about 10 occasions so that’s not too bad.

Lots of Love to you All and thanks for following me :)

My Top Tips for How I am Going to Stay Happy and Healthy in January and the rest of 2016!

Hello Lovelies

It’s been a while since I have blogged and I must confess I have actually enjoyed a lovely break at Christmas and New Year and spent time with family and friends and for me it is a time to reflect on the past year and also to re-evaluate what I am happy with in my life and what, if anything, I need to maybe change. (Sometimes, that isn’t always possible). All the people around me set New Year Resolutions on New Year’s Eve, but I tend to hold off a bit and see what I think is achievable and possible to do and so by a couple of weeks into January instead of feeling like I have set goals that I can’t achieve, and give up on them, I am hopefully easing myself into my new goals and feeling like I can stick to them and the reasons why.

Christmas was amazing and incredibly busy for us as a family, wanting to spend time with my own two daughters and then my husband’s 3 children as well as spending a lovely Christmas breakfast with special friends to start the day off just right. Then it was continual feasting and present opening until we were exhausted to the point of bursting at the end of the day. But oh how I love it and I know I have said in the past that the most important Christmas present that I can have is spending time with family.

girls xmas and me

We were then lucky enough to be able to go to the French Alps on Boxing Day and chill out after a chaotic build up to Christmas seeing everyone and present swapping. There hasn’t been that much snow in the French Alps and so the skiing was poor for the first few days that we were there, but that gave us all the more time to spend time together in the chalet, chatting, playing games and watching box sets of TV that we had taken out with us (this time it was the turn of the series Intelligence which I must say was brilliant!) I never normally have this sort of time to be able to do this, as I am sure if you are reading this, then you probably feel the same way, so it takes a slot in my magic memory banks and hopefully stays there forever.

girls skiing on lift

I am not a great skier, I am ok , probably intermediate standard but I just love being in the mountains and in the snow (when it eventually fell) but probably one of the greatest gifts that a holiday gives you is that time for reflection … so what are my hopes, thoughts for 2016?

1. HEALTH – perhaps the most important of them all. I have lost some special family members over the last few years and a special friend too and it really does keep on reminding you that we are only here temporarily and personally I want to be here as long as possible! January is a tough time for a lot of people to get through, after the expenses and excesses of Christmas everything seems to feel a bit dull and the weather is generally so much colder so that we stay indoors more and for some people it can be incredibly lonely. For me it is absolutely essential for my mental and physical wellbeing that I keep exercising – above anything else this makes me feel better and although I don’t do that much, probably about 40 mins 5 times a week of exercising and that is at about 75 per cent of my heart rate (I always use a heart rate monitor) so it’s not crazy stuff and I am lucky enough to have a tread mill at home which means I don’t have to go out anywhere running across fields in bad weather (certainly not my style anyway!!) It’s true that after exercise you get these amazing endorphins whizzing around your body and you can tackle anything life throws at you.

I also try and eat as healthily as I can and I am trying to cut down a little bit on alcohol in January (not that I drink a lot anyway), but found myself in the run up to Christmas just drinking most days purely because of the socialising. And I try and eat plenty of fresh protein, vegetables and fruit, but I do have chocolate, in fact I had quite a bit for Christmas that I am eating up, and find that actually some dark evenings, a bit of chocolate cheers me up!!!
2. VITAMINS – I do take vitamins, as I think particularly as you get older and are not burning off as many calories, it’s hard to take onboard the amounts of food of the correct variety to give you your daily nutrients. The right nutrients are so important to keep us healthy and I take various vitamins and particularly in the winter Vitamin C, which I take daily in the effervescent tablet form, to help with my immunity and fight off colds, I also take a spoonful of local honey every morning on my porridge. Perhaps the most important one for me, that I take, and have taken for years is Cod Liver Oil. My parents always used to take this and I was given this every day as a child!

seven seas cod liver oil

The one that I really like and use at the moment is the Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil in the Extra High Strength as I figure I need all the help I can get with the High Strength as I get older. It has been scientifically proven that Cod Liver Oil is such a rich source of the essential Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA that we need to help with the normal heart, vision and brain functions, so I consider that pretty high up on my list! I take one of these in the morning ….

3. TRAVEL MORE! – Even if it’s just a weekend away every now and then we all need something to look forward to and in particular, January is a great time to plan one of these or an annual holiday. There is something so exciting about putting all the plans together and travel for me is one of the best things that I can do in life. I have been lucky enough to travel with my husband, but also love time away with my daughters and I am so looking forward to going to Ibiza this year (not the clubs I hasten to add!)

with a friend who lost her husband last year and so I suggested to her that we go there as I have never been there before and she and her husband used to go there every year, and she can show me around. She is so so excited about it … and it gives her something to look forward to as well. One of the things my Mum used to say to me was “You don’t remember how many times you dusted the skirting boards …. you remember the places you went and the people you went with” … and I am carrying on her zest for life.

4. SPRING CLEAN! (Where did that one come from!)
I am probably the only one that does this, but I like to plan at the beginning of the year what I hope to be able to change or do in the house …. does this bedroom need decorating this year etc and should I bother updating the dining room and turn it into an office ….. or should I just leave it another year as a room which is never used lol!!! Houses seem to need continual maintenance, don’t they? and it’s an area that I don’t think I am very good at and definitely need to work on some more inspiration for that …so January might be spent looking at Pinterest!

dining room

And if you are not familiar with the site you are missing out. Have a look at it … there are all sorts of sections of interest and once I found it I have become hooked .. it’s a way to plan and cheer yourself up through January. (Hasten to add the picture above is not my dining room – it’s from Pinterest, but dreaming … it’s probably the dining room I would have). Have a lot of fun dreaming and planning for 2016.

Lots of Love

Hi Lovelies

Welcome back to this week’s blog and as everything hots up for Christmas Becky and I were lucky enough to spend a couple of days in London mainly for meetings but we did get chance to window shop in Harrods and visit Oxford Street with the beautiful Christmas lights.  I know a lot of people have stayed away from London because of what happened in Paris, but I just feel like we have to carry on with our lives and so we carried on with our plans.  One of the treats that we had after feeling pretty tired from bag carrying and Christmas shopping was that we visited the amazing luxury BeautyBAR by Clarins which is in John Lewis on Oxford Street but just tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the store and London, to the side of the Clarins counter.

Clarins Beauty bar

The fantastic idea behind this is that you can have 30 minute treatments to quickly help you resolve whatever your beauty skin issue.  I had the amazing Revital Eyes as my eyes were just feeling so tired from London and after 30 minutes I left feeling brightened and tightened and refreshed.  Your hands get a lovely treatment in this one and there’s also a mini massage too!  I loved it and it’s only£25.  The best bit for me is that they put some make up back onto you so you can go back into the store and carry on shopping … you don’t feel too barefaced … if you are not comfortable with that.   She used some amazing mascara on me too!!!  Becky and I decided that we would be going back for more treatments when we are down in London as it was such a pick me up!

Now onto a little experiment that I have been doing for the last few months between the high end brand of La Prairie Cellular Hydrating Serum and the high street/drugstore Boots No 7 brand of Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum.  On the left hand side of my face I have been using the La Prairie (priced at £129.60 in John Lewis /£144.00 in Harrods!) and on the right hand side of my face Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum priced at £23.95.  My aim – to find out if it worth spending all that money on a serum, does it make a difference? Is it worth the extra spend?

So La Prairie’s packaging is a luxury looking pale blue and beautiful silver container and would look lovely in any bathroom.  It’s hard to find exactly what the ingredients are in La Prairie but it claims to be loaded with antioxidants and cell communicating ingredients to reproduce the look of healthy skin and the actual serum did make my skin feel soft and silky when applied.  The bottle would probably last you nearly a year and it is scented, but I didn’t mind that and I had no sensitive reaction to the product.

Boots No 7 protect

Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum claims to target and tackle fine lines and that it contains peptides such as the powerful Matrixyl 3000 Plus which is the next generation peptide to help your skin look younger.  It stimulates collagen and elastic reproduction so the results keep getting better with the more you use it.  The packaging is basic, and a tube that would probably last you 6 months?

Now for the interesting bit …… what did I think?  Feeling both sides of my skin and closing my eyes to really understand the difference …. Does the side with La Prairie feel softer and smoother …Yes…. Does it feel more plumped ?  ……Yes.  But how much ????? Not a huge, huge deal.  I want to be able to say oh my goodness my skin looks and feels out of this world with La Prairie, but I can’t … all I can say is that it is better.  If money was not in the equation then it’s definitely La Prairie … but in most people’s worlds it is going to be Boots No7, isn’t it, and it’s  been proven to be doing a great job …. so better to be using this than nothing at all!!!  Hehe …. now to even my face out for the next 6 months by switching sides with the products…!!!!!

Let’s get onto hair now and how in the winter, and also with dry, coloured hair, my hair needs all the help it can get!  Now here’s a lovely smelling oil from a brand that I love that contains macadamia, coconut and sweet almond oil …. ohhh that smell is gorgeous.  This lovely nourishing treatment oil for your hair can be used as a pre-wash treatment or the way I have been using it is after I have styled my hair, I pop a few drops on the top half of my fingers, rub both hands together and then sort of scrunch if on the ends and any curls or style I might have to help soften it and make it more glossy.

dove pure care dry oil

You think when you put oil on your hair that it is going to make it greasy or heavy, but not at all, the trick is not to use very much and if you suffer from the frizzies, then it will help de-frizz!  What a gorgeous, great priced nourishing treatment for hair in a bottle that will last simply ages and ages and I found it at Boots for £9.99.  Just can’t stop stroking my hair now hehe …..

So that’s it for this week, as I now rush around like all women out there going into some chaotic pre-Christmas state as I still have presents to buy, still have wrapping to do … and personally don’t I just hate those lovely ladies who have them all wrapped up by now!! (secretly I probably wish that I was one of those .. but why is it that my girlies just won’t get their Christmas lists organised until the last moment ….Aaaaaagh!) Love them really.

Lots of love and happy Christmas Shopping xx

Beauty, Hands, Make Up, Nails, Winter

Hi Lovelies

Welcome back to this week’s Blog and yes I did get to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and spent a lovely few hours there having fun.  London was amazing with all its Christmas decorations and loveliness and I am well and truly feeling festive now.  I am one of these people that always has to have a chocolate advent calendar (even though I would love the beauty ones … just cannot splurge that much on an advent calendar) … so it’s a coin that is tossed between my husband and I as to who opens the first one of the calendar … I think the object is to make sure that you have no 24, which is usually the biggest chocolate! At the moment my husband is on target to to get the 24th!!  We are not competitive at all haha…. why don’t we just buy two advent calendars you might ask?  Probably because it is more fun squabbling over one I guess!  Lovely pic of Winter Wonderland for you ….

Now onto the Beauty and this is that luxury brand that decided to come off the runway and into make up …. Burberry!!! Oh my goodness I went into their Covent Garden beautiful store and it can only be described as utter loveliness upstairs where all the cosmetics are as well, in the most beautifully designed space I think I have even seen, with luxury pull out drawers to view the collections (there are also to die for scarves up there).  Splurge worthy?  At Christmas … yes … definitely.

For me it was the Burberry Nail Polish in Military Red which was a must have for me for the festive season.  Not only did they put it in just the cutest, loveliest little Burberry Bag, but the packaging on this has the gorgeous gold chunky contemporary top with the iconic Burberry checked print embossed on the gold.  Swoon! The actual formulation of the polish is patent pending with its quick drying formula which also contains pro Vitamin B to help strengthen and moisturise your nails.  One thing I do suffer from is dry nails and so a brand that helps by putting the moisture in there is going to be a favourite of mine.

The brush is lovely to apply the polish and has a nicely rounded end which helps to make the application more precise (less of the spillage onto the fingers which I seem to be so good at!!) I use my Leighton Denny Precision Corrector to correct any little mistakes.  It covers well in two coats and then with a top coat on top looks very sexy and just right for Autumn/Winter.  This beautiful red which just has to be worn on evenings out and certainly Christmas parties is the red that is in their signature Burberry check.  Would I have liked one of these in my Xmas stocking?  You bet … £15.00 from Burberry. (Christmas lavishness!!)

Mr Max Factor invented the first mascara wand in 1958!  Since then, there have been many and he has added another one to the collection .  Velvet Volume Lash Effect Mascara Max Factor and what is the difference about this one?

This formulation claims to be more lightweight than most others, but when I tested it, the biggest thing for me is that whereas most mascaras can feel brittle and stiff, this one leaves your lashes feeling lovely velvety soft probably because of the beeswax in it, which for me is so nice.  So the idea is because of its lightweight soft formula it doesn’t weigh your lashes down.

I found it really defined my lashes and coated product nicely on every lash and for me it was perfect as an everyday mascara but if you were looking for glam, huge voluminous lashes then this probably isn’t the perfect mascara for you.  It lasted all day and I really love it.  The best price I found it for was £9.99 at Boots.

I truly think that our lovely hands need as much love as our faces (they don’t get it though, do they?) and then one day you look down at your hands and realise that they need some help!! Hand creams are amazing for adding moisture and have the most amazing scents but this latest winter skin busting hand treatment from Hand Chemistry contains 24 per cent of active ingredients from marine and plant sources which penetrate deep below the surface too.  It’s kind of balm like in texture and not at all sticky so it doesn’t seem like a traditional hand cream in that sense and it leaves an invisible layer on top of your hands which locks moisture in too.

This product is all about anti-ageing in the hands and that’s probably why I love it, because it says you get some results in 24 hrs and then others within 10 days … it just keeps on working if you apply it morning and night.  Certainly I noticed more plumpness, and a beautiful smoother, better texture which definitely makes the hands look younger.   The money in this company has gone into costly ingredients and research rather than fancy packaging, however, although I love it as a treatment hand cream, I will still be adding my traditional hand cream on top = Best of Both Worlds.  This was £18.99 online and £19.99 at Boots.

That’s it for this week of Beauty Goodies and it’s now time to go and get that Christmas Tree organised.   I so love Christmas.

Lots of love to you all.

Hi Lovelies

Welcome to another week in the life of …. and this week has seen me struggling with that awful cold, like I am sure loads of you have been, such is the change in the weather. My appetite has waned (good for weight loss hehe!) and I have been drinking loads of tea and Vitamin C! But, I am coming out the other side and will be back on top to my normal enthusiastic self, whereas this week has been that awful,”I am too tired to do much”, which totally isn’t me. That crazy pre-Christmas season is nearly upon us and I need to be ready for it …. fully prepped and ready to go! I am off to London again tomorrow for meetings and of course, some shopping, and am hoping to go to the gorgeous Christmas Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, London – possibly have a go ice skating on the rink there … although that could be disastrous particularly after a glass of mulled wine from the beautiful stalls there at the Christmas market. Fingers crossed!

Let’s get on to some beauty …. and help to say goodbye to that Winter Skin as one of my Holy Grail products Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream makes it to the front of the pack of products again. This cult moisturiser is what shot the Elemis brand to fame and onto everyone’s radar to help them become the huge brand that they are now. Formulated with marine extracts this cream claims to help reduce wrinkle depth and help improve your skin’s texture and tone.

I love Elemis and certainly the quality of ingredients is reflected in the price as this 30ml moisturises comes in at £50, which is quite a price tag to carry. However I often look at the deals that they have on QVC (you can go online if you don’t want to watch it) and you can pick up some amazing savings on Elemis. The cream is really lightweight but is incredibly hydrating and perfect I would say for anyone with dry/combination skin and my skin certainly improves in texture and tone when I continue using this. I always put it over a nourishing serum in the morning and then pop my make up over it. This product is slightly fragranced (it actually smells really nice) and so would be one to avoid if you don’t like that, but even me with my sensitive skin seem to have no problem in using it. It’s one of those products that you need to give time to really see results as well and it just keeps getting better and better. It’s an oldie …. but it’s a goodie.

Don’t we just love Bobbi Brown and everything that she stands for. An ongoing problem for a lot of people is dark circles under their eyes and Bobbi’s answer is to use a corrector first in either pinky bisque tones on purple or blueish circles or peach tones for brown or greenish circles. I obtained the corrector in light bisque.

Its lovely and hydrating and and really creamy so you don’t need much product for it to cover and correct and is probably best applied with a concealer brush and then patted gently with your finger. It certainly for me blocks out any circles coming through. The problem is though that you can’t use corrector alone and then need to apply a skin tone matching concealer which I obtained in Beige and then this has a pale yellow sheer powder with which to set it all, otherwise I think you might have problems with mascara transferring.

I found the important thing was to not apply too much product at a time and for me, because I do have lines under my eyes, I did find that I had to pat it in slightly later in the day as well. On younger skin with no lines or really fine lines, I think both products are amazing, but if you have a lot of lines underneath your eyes, this would definitely be settling in your wrinkles and actually probably almost looking worse. The cheapest price for the corrector was £17.10 and for the concealer was £19.00. Not cheap but they would last you ages and if your major problem is really dark circles, then perhaps you make the decision to show a few wrinkles but you under eye is brightened and you look less tired. Decisions…. decisions …

Lastly onto some pretties …. a gorgeous mini eye shadow palette from Autograph, Marks and Spencers.  Marks and Spencers constantly surprise me with the ranges that they keep bringing out and their Beauty Hall is amazing with the quality of different brands that they stock but this one is their own brand.  This little palette is going to be my party go to eye palette with its blend of lighter, mid and dark shades taking you from a fairly muted look right through to the smoky eye look with darker shades for under the eyes and using on the outer corners of the eye.

Most of the beautiful colours in the browns and copper ranges (but there is also a gorgeous dark green in there with a bit of sparkle), have shimmer in them, but its not over the top sparkle which would be too much, its nice party shimmer which will catch the light and attract attention to your gorgeous eyes.  I am loving this palette and am enjoying playing around with it to achieve some really Christmassy party looks.  What’s life without a bit of highlight/shimmer?  At any age. ….

That’s it for this week and I sending you all lots of love and huggles (is that cuddles and hugs?) in front of the toasty fire.

Beauty, Make Up

Hi Lovelies

Happy Friday! Another Friday here already and a mixed week for me. Last Friday night, I was in London when the awfulness happened in Paris and as I sat in my hotel room, you could feel the whole capital was just in sadness for the events that unfolded in Paris that night. I know it struck Becky and Holly, that my husband and I had gone off to London for a night at the theatre and how for all those families affected, they never knew what the outcome was going to be that night. Add to that, one hell of a cold (caught from my husband who only had a sniffle, but I end up with a really bad head cold) and it’s been a bit of a week. Anyone else on the cold and flu tablets?? So we need a bit of beauty to cheer us up!!!

Let’s get started with a mascara that has been out for a while I know, but one which I have only really used lately. Lancome patented this mascara for its “swan neck” which I must admit I was a bit daunted by at first and almost scared to use? However, on using it you do find that it helps give great lift as you twirl away. I love the brush as sometimes I find them too long or the bristles way too thick for my lashes, but this elastomer one distributes the mascara evenly over the eyelashes and its great for my teeny weeny little lower lashes.

The other nice thing is that is has a nourishing rose oil in it which also helps to smooth as you apply. You do actually get used to the swan neck and probably find you are not doing as many weird head movements to apply it. I have to say when I first used it I did love the lifting and lengthening aspect of it. It’s not for you if you want masses of volume, but I love it as a great mascara (easily removed at the end of the day) for the day. It’s not cheap though … £24.50 was the cheapest that I could find it online for.

Now I am someone that has only over the last year got into oils. I used to think that they would clog my pores and be greasy, which is a feeling I hate, but I am becoming a fan of them. L’Oreal’s version for the likes of me and my lovely friends of a certain age (whatever that might be) – I tend to say it’s more how your skin feels than the age that you are, is a gorgeous blend of 8 essential oils, lavender, marjoram, rosemary, geranium and rose being amongst them. So in there, ideal for me too with sensitive skin are some oils that help have antibacterial properties so help to calm redness and are good for sensitive skin. It does have a slight perfume, which I would say is on the light citrussy side but it doesn’t linger long.

So about 3 drops of this at nighttime (you can use it in the morning as well), rubbed gently in my fingers and then massaged in circular motion on my face and neck and I do decollete as well really does help to leave my skin glow, be much smoother and more nourished. I prefer to do this oil treatment first and leave that for a few seconds and then add my night moisturiser separately but I know some people pop it into their moisturiser and do them both in one step. Having been someone who was really fearful of the whole oil thing, I have been converted to realising that it is just what my skin actually needs, particularly as we get a little bit (only a little bit hehe) older …. as it starts to thin and can look slightly dull too … this is the answer! I found it at all sorts of prices too from £6.90 up to £13.33 online , but either way, it’s a great price for a lovely oil, which using only a few drops a day is going to last you simply ages!! I am now an oil convert !!!!

Wanting a fresh, natural, long wearing, buildable blusher that looks great on fair skin? Then this one is it. This has become my Holy Grail blusher for the past month or so and I purchased it by chance really as I probably wouldn’t have done as it looked like it was going to be glittery/shimmer when in fact it isn’t. It’s a really flattering dusky pink with no fragrance, which is what I like, comes in a lovely silver container and has a mirror as well.

I am not really a fan of the brush although on the move, without your normal blusher brush you could possibly get away with it, but you need to go lightly with the brush supplied as it does tend to make you look clownlike if you are a bit heavy handed with it, so as always go gently with blusher and build it up in layers if you need to. I think it’s good value compared to some higher end blushes, say like Nars, and this would last you ages and ages. Cheapest price I found it at was £19.60 but truly a lovely blush.

That’s it for this week’s blog… I am going to leave you with one of my favourite shoes …. so cute xx

oh … they are from Next …

Lots of love and have a great week and hope you don’t get a cold like me xx

Beauty, Hair, Uncategorized

Hello Lovelies

Well we are nicely into November now and I am actually turning my thoughts towards Christmas now … I keep being reminded that it’s only about 6 weeks and I am one of these people that keep on thinking it is a long time away. Friends have already purchased most of their presents, but I haven’t even started yet … so the next few weeks are going to be full of present buying and card writing. I am so excited as I am off to London tomorrow (friday) and will be seeing the gorgeous Christmas lights and beautiful decorations of the capital …. I absolutely love it and am in heaven with all the gorgeous window displays in the likes of the lovely Harrods, Selfridges, Libertys etc. I will no doubt be purchasing some beauty goodies ….. Many apologies to you all as I have had some technical difficulties with my computer in sizing the photos .. so please forgive me this week.

So let’s get onto some beauty ..

Am I the last person on this planet to try one of these sheet masks, Korean skincare style? Maybe not. But we all know that Asians have the most amazing skincare and I have heard and seen so many of these masks appearing in lots of beauty places now so thought that I would give one a go. My usual face mask is out of a tube – usually an odd colour… packed on my face until it dries and cracks and I look like something out of a horror movie .. and my husband or the postman is not quite sure what to make of me (oh that weird lady that is always trying out different beauty products!). The one I tried is for vibrancy and is £2.49 for the one sachet of mask. It contains diamond powder? which works on clarity, and smooths and nourishes the skin and great for me, contains no parabens.

The mask is made out of lovely lightweight cotton and soaked with the gorgeous product and then the task is to unfold it and work out which holes go over the eyes and which over the mouth (I know if’s a bit strange), but once I had taken the plunge and placed it on my face and moved it into the right position so that I could see, and breathe … hehe ….. I found it lovely and cooling and soothing. Ideally maybe you should lie down for about 30 minutes to enjoy the whole relaxation thing as well, but life isn’t like that for me hehe and I just carried on with my daily tasks, but found that it didn’t move at all and I just prayed the parcel man wouldn’t ring the bell and want me to sign for anything.

So now for the reveal and I don’t know what to expect, but OMG, probably the smoothest, plumpest my skin has ever felt, maybe down to amongst other things the aloe in it too and although I had slight redness on my cheeks which is my most sensitive area, it soon faded. There is a little bit of product left over in the pouch as well and you can either use that on your face say the next day, if you keep it in the fridge, or else pop it on your body … no wastage here. So my results are telling me that I am definitely going to be using these masks …they would be great before an event when you want you skin to appear plumped and smooth. There are other masks for different effects but I certainly loved this one. What a little gem I found!!! (Diamond…. clearly!)

Now onto a US brand that I don’t really know much about, but have seen them around and thought I would give them a try. I thought I would try one of their Lip Glazes, Banana Berry to be precise … not sure if it smells like that but it certainly smells a little bit fruity. This beautiful colour would be great for all of you who like the nude look and when I saw it in the dispenser I thought it was going to be stronger than it is, but it comes up a nudey, sheer, slightly shimmery, mauve colour with absolutely amazing staying power for a gloss. Some people might not like the packaging and how you twist it several clicks to get the product onto the brush, but I like the fact that it has a brush applicator as I found it much more accurate to apply onto the lips.

So it’s for all you nudies out there who love that look, but for me, one of the other ways to use it is over the top of say a mauve lipliner all over your lips giving you lovely glossy mauve lips which lasts fantastically for a gloss. A great look for Autumn. I purchased the Stila Lip Gloss from Marks and Spencer for £12, but I know they sell it in Boots too.

Always in search of the Holy Grail in beauty products for thickening and sorting out my fine hair I have over the last couple of weeks been trying the Aveda Invati range which has had a lot of advertising behind it – when you walk past their salons it is on posters in the window and I thought I would give it a go. I haven’t used many Aveda products but I do like the idea of the organic formula and was keen to see if my hair would benefit from using it. The shampoo is clarifying and removes the build up from all the styling products that I might use and although a kind of strange dark mustard yellow colour that doesn’t smell fantastic (all the amazing things in it), I can work past that if it does amazing things to my hair. It’s a herbal kind of smell, which some might like, but others might not, but I can definitely deal with it.

It lathers well and definitely makes my scalp feel super clean and the thickening effect conditioner seems to work immediately although I did add some of my Luxe Oil to the conditioner because my hair is coloured and because the shampoo strips away a lot of the “rubbish” as I call it from my hair, if I didn’t put the luxe oil in then my hair would feel quite dry afterwards.

Probably if you weren’t colouring your hair the conditioner would be fine. The range helps to restore the strength in your hair and elasticity, so helps keep the hair that you have and stop it from thinning and also encourages new growth too, this is through the use of amongst other ingredients, Turmeric, which is famous for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties and also ginseng.

Did it thicken my hair? Yes it did and my hair did feel incredibly clean too and I am going to continue using this for the next few weeks to see how my hair fares. At salon sort of prices – its not cheap, but again it’s the ingredients in it that you are paying for. The shampoo I got for £18.70 and the conditioner is £24.50. They can be bought online from Aveda if you don’t have a salon near you.

Ooh …. and just getting a little bit excited … how beautiful is this building ?

Lots of love lovelies !!
