Anti ageing

Hi Lovelies

Welcome to another blog and what have I been up to? Well I had a wonderful weekend in the beautiful city of Glasgow for my Valentines weekend. A quick flight from Birmingham and we were there and met by the sunny natured Scots whose friendliness and welcoming was apparent from the start. How lovely are they. The city itself has fantastic architecture, lovely old streets and buildings , fantastic museums (which are all free) and amazing shopping. It boasts being the best retail city outside of London. We stayed at the lovely Grand Central Hotel literally attached to the beautifully refurbished railway station there which had such an amazing central location so you could walk most places.

The other fantastic thing to do as well was to do the city bus tour and stop off around Glasgow at the many places there are to see and we stopped off at the Riverside Museum which houses all kinds of old cars, methods of transport and street museum from days gone by. Although it was pretty cold up there (with snow on the peaks of the hills as we landed), it is an amazing city … one of the highlights as well for me was going to the Willow Tea Rooms, which was designed by the famous architect Rennie Macintosh. We absolutely loved it and will definitively go back and there is such a lot to see.

Here’s a quick pic of me on Valentines Day -sorry the light wasn’t great in the hotel room.

Let’s talk Beauty now ….

And this week I was super interested to try the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Foundation – one of the new velvet generation foundations to be so on trend now. I have watched and heard quite a bit about the foundation and was keen to try it on my more mature skin and see how it performed. The first thing you notice is just how liquid this foundation is and you have to be careful, and ready when you squeeze some out that it doesn’t run off your hand … so be ready! Like most Chanel foundations it has quite a fragrance to it, but thankfully that didn’t seem to bother me, as I have quite sensitive skin and sometimes it can be things like the fragrancing that cause me to break out. It also does have alcohol quite high up on the ingredients list so if you have a problem with that then it’s not for you.

chanel velvet

But it is that gorgeous texture, as light as a feather, that literally feels like velvet on your fingertips (as I apply it with my fingertips as I don’t want to waste any, because this piece of gorgeousness was £33.00 from Selfridges and I literally don’t want to waste any!) It’s a light to medium coverage that evens out the skin and gives you pretty much perfected skin, if you haven’t got any marks that you want to hide, for most of the day and lasts that matte finish for certainly a good few hours without even powdering. It’s so light, it literally feels like you have nothing on your skin.

My skin is normal-dry and for me the most essential part of this application is applying this on really hydrated skin and definitely using a very good primer, or sunscreen before applying the foundation. If you have slightly drier areas then this is going to cling to it.

Other plusses are that it has an SPF of 15 and the bottle is so chic, and light for travel, which for me is fantastic, easy for storage too. If you love the new velvet matte kinda finishes and you have well maintained skin, then you will love the lightness, texture and finish of this baby … for me sometimes I like a little bit more glowiness in my foundation so might well be mixing something in with this for my HG.

almond cuticle

I am on the plane writing this week’s blog with my beauty travel essentials firmly in my little plastic bag… and as I feel my hands drying in the plane’s air con, I am reaching for my little trusty Body Shop Nail and Cuticle Oil (Almond). In the middle of winter here and being ravaged all the time by elements, air con! and heating I pop this little gem in my handbag and apply it several times a day to save my cuticles and nails becoming even more drier than they already are. Hands definitely show the signs of ageing, don’t they ??

almond cuticle 2

When I first purchased this from the Body Shop, hehe, it took me ages to work out how to get the product out as it’s a slim pen when you pull the cap off with a brush at the end and you twist the bottom of the pen to click the product into the brush … but I was obviously having a blonde moment for a while as it took ages to work all this out!!! Anyway once it was fully functioning I loved it .. and its so easy to quickly brush the oil round my cuticles and let it soak in. My cuticles certainly love it and when they have softened up, there is a rubber cuticle thingy? shaped like a hoof -perfectly shaped for your nail – less harsh than a metal one – that you use to push the cuticle back carefully with. For drier skin types like moi, this little pen is perfect and a favourite in my travel bag and to use at the office, of wherever I am. It’s not the cheapest, but its handy and effective and smells nice too!!

That’s it from me this week ….off to see if there is any snow … thankfully I think there is loads and have a lovely week whatever you are doing.

What are your thoughts on the Chanel foundation if you have tried it? Love to hear from you as always.

Lots of Love

Hi Lovelies

Welcome to another week in the life of ….. This week I put up a video which was different from the norm and was one that people had asked me to do about how I stay Healthy and Happy so it was more of a chatty one and was really well received by so many people who asked me to do some others at some point as well on a variety of different subjects. I love doing the chatty ones and sharing the experiences and life learnings that I have and hope that it helps some people in some way. This week’s been a bit more of a chilling week as I am going away with Becky and Holly next week so prepping for that in many ways with all the sorting there is to do before you go away. I don’t really feel as though we have had much of a summer here and am looking forward to some chill out with my gorgeous daughters. It’s the time when we chat about all sorts of things and do the little things in life that I enjoy so much like all having breakfast together… Love it and each year it becomes harder and harder to find a date that suits everyone. I did get to look after the puppies though whilst the girls were in Paris, which I loved and to say Thank You the girls gave me a gorgeous box of Parisian Macarons as they are called. OMG – these are probably the softest, chewiest, most delectable macarons I have ever tried. They are keeping their Momma sweet!

So now for some beauty and first slot has to go to The Amazing Body Shop who really are flying this year with bringing out such fabulous new products and getting themselves back in the game in so many different areas. Followers know that I love The Body Shop but it’s been a while since they changed packaging and took themselves up to another level to rival other brands that are creeping in. I love them for the fact though that they don’t test on animals too. So the fabulous range that they have just brought out is called Oils of Life.

oils of life bottle

Go run to the nearest Body Shop to have a look because you will find that they are truly changing to supplying dark glass bottles with lovely black tops which come in neat white boxes with gold embossing on and you will hardly recognise this now luxurious brand. All centred around adding a glow and revitalising your skin they have used cold pressed seed oils (to give the best quality) consisting of Black Cumin, Camelia and Rosehip, selected for their anti-oxidant, nutrient and fatty acid qualities.

Now I am someone that certainly felt like they had a problem putting oils on my face as my oily T-zone seems to react badly, but I learnt to just apply a couple of drops into my hands (just inhale that gorgeous smell before you apply it to your face …. it’s wonderful) and then to smooth this over my face and then apply one of the two moisturisers on top. The oil is the most perfect texture to be absorbed into your skin so you don’t end up feeling like you are a grease ball! So first of all it’s the beautifully packaged Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil – a couple of drops of that at night and then followed by the choice of two moisturisers.

oils of life dropper

Again, because I sometimes do suffer with an oiliness I opted for the Intensely Revitalising Gel Cream, which is a beautiful gel blend of facial oils which manages to hydrate my skin but not leave it sticky. This is perfect for me. However, if you wanted more of a cream (and perhaps I will as I get into Winter) then try the Intensely Revitalising Cream which is lovely and soft, light and silky but feels so good on the skin and again, not greasy so that you wake up with definitely smoother, softer skin. I alternate this with a nightly regime where I add a hyaluronic serum on the other night. Getting the best of both worlds. Well done The Body Shop for bringing out a brilliant, luxurious Oils of Life range.

All this talk about lovely oils on the skin and the love and care that we do give our skin. One of the lovely things about writing this blog is that I get to find out about all sorts of new products coming out and one that I am particularly interested at the moment is SEQuaderma. I like to try products for nearly two months to understand if it is going to make a difference and I have been trying the one for Ageing and Thinning Skin. We all know that problems and differences in our skin can have massive effects on people’s confidence and they also do other gels for other skin conditions. Sequa derma is more a scientific brand and their secret seems to be the tiny nanosperes which squeeze through our skin to deliver key ingredients to the right places. It’s a gel that I applied morning and night and instead of trying it on my face I decided to try it on my right hand (strange I know) but the reason for doing this was that I did notice that my right hand looks more aged than my left, and my reasoning was that if it could work on my hand, then it could certainly work on my face …

You leave it to work for 10 minutes – go downstairs, make a cup of tea etc and then if you like wipe it off although mine was always absorbed and then apply your toner and moisturiser as you would. I have to say that this little potion packed with Vitamin C/E and phospholipids (all great for skincare) got to work fairly quickly, within a week or so I would say and my hand had definitely plumped up, looks better texture and is smoother and this product slowly chips away at the hyper-pigmentation that I have which we all get to some degree as we age. At the moment it is £19.99 and is sold at Lloyds Pharmacy and online there and within 6 weeks I am only half way down the bottle so it’s really good value for money compared to some products out there. I am going to continue with it and probably re-purchase which is always a good sign and I am also going to try some of their Anti Redness one as well and will let you know how I get on with that one.Lloyds Pharmacy

I can’t possibly write a blog, if you know me well enough, without having some touch of gorgeousness in there and this week it is the turn of Marc Jacobs Enamoured Nail Enamel, which was a present that Becky and Holly bought me back from the US and in the shade Shocking because they know how I like my hot pink. This nail enamel comes in nearly 40 shades when I looked online and I know that mine was from that amazing store Sephora (omg what a store – it’s like a sweetie shop but full of make up!)

marc jacobs

The actual polish was apparently inspired by Marc Jacobs’ glossy coffee table and has an amazing level of shine to it even without a topcoat. The bottle is just something that when I saw it, I just knew I had to hold it … with its black glossy top which you pull off (it took me a while to work that out!) it’s a touch of luxury and the polish comes out as such a superior nail polish with its vivid colour and I found that one coat could almost be enough – that tells you how opaque it is. (I did apply two coats though to get the best effect). I even loved the brush that comes with it and found it super easy to apply an even coat. I know this is such a classic colour, but there is a huge range of lovely colours for you to choose from. At the moment it’s in my bathroom to “Oooh, Ahhh” at every day!!

I can’t go without just telling you about something new that I tried this week. Indulging in a bath is one of life’s pleasures and although showers are great I don’t really find them that relaxing so when I was sent a couple of Kneipp Sparkling Bath Tablets I thought I would give the Arnica one a go before I went to bed one night. I had done a bit of exercise that day, but didn’t fully realise how much my muscles would relax until I sank down into a bath with it dissolved in and gave my body an aromatherapeutic treat and what a lovely treat it was.

Get past the bright yellow/orange colour, which threw me a bit, but I closed my eyes and it didn’t matter and I felt all those little tiny muscles individually relaxing as I laid there and almost fell asleep…. in fact I had to drag myself out of the bath and get myself into bed quick because I was SO relaxed! These are natural and the arnica one has anti inflammatory properties and also is very effective on bruises and when I came out of the bath I found my skin nicely hydrated and super smooth. They also do one in Eucalyptus which I think would be amazing to lie in when you had a head cold .. that colder weather is not far away and I am sure I will be using it soon. They are £1.95 each and can be purchased off Amazon and Feel Unique sites so they are definitely something to spoil your body with naturally of course!

Just look at these cute puppies …. I think I wore them out !!

Have a lovely week.

Hello Lovelies

Well welcome back to another week in the life of and this week saw me going back to Stratford-upon-Avon where I was born and catching up with family and lovely friends who I don’t get chance to catch up with. I loved my few days there and feel like I have ‘connected’ back again. Phone calls and emails are ok aren’t they, but they are not like the real thing, chatting over a cup of tea, or glass of wine. Somehow it makes me feel more complete … just shows what that area must mean to me and the people! I met up with a lovely school friend and we had such a good time chatting about our hilarious days back at our all girls school and what we had got up to … fond memories. But in with the good comes some sad as well, doesn’t it and today I attended the funeral of a dear friend of mine who lost his battle to cancer. Every time you go through these sad times it makes me determined to live my life to the full for as long as I can and to keep on growing old disgracefully! (A little photo I took of Shakespeare’s Birthplace – usually the frontage is full of tourists.)

So.. catch up done … let’s get on to some beauty and see what I have been trying this week. Let’s get onto some skincare for the summer and let’s specifically focus in on Vitamin C. You may or may not know that Vitamin C helps stop those nasty things that cause premature ageing – pollution and oxygen amongst others. Used regularly in a skincare routine it can help to reduce brown spots, boost collagen production and reduce inflammation, which causes damage. So onto a product which The Body Shop produce ‘Vitamin C Cream’ which is a lovely light cream that smells amazing.

vit c moisturiser

This cream has the consistency of a gel and although when I put it on it felt a bit ‘tacky’ at first, it soon sank into my skin. This cream is probably aimed at normal to slightly dry skin so if you do have skin on the drier side, then it probably wouldn’t be enough. However, it’s got that lovely energising citrus scent and in the warmer weather is a gorgeous addition to your skincare. The only thing is there is no SPF in this so you would need to put that on your skin as well.

Keeping with the Vitamin C theme – and perfect for the day time…. if you are lacking sleep (always!) and you want your skin to feel fresher and look plumper then the other Vitamin C product from ‘The Body Shop – Vitamin C Glow Boosting Skincare’ might just be worth trying. With the benefits of the Vitamin C, and in a tube, this peach sort of BB/CC cream corrects dullness and also helps get rid of dark circles under eyes.

vit c instant glow enhancer

On really fair skin, this would probably make your skin a bit darker, but on mine it definitely brightens and helps colour correct to a soft matte finish. You can either wear this under make up or stand alone.

Now I know where some of my readers live you probably wear sunscreen a lot of the time, but in the UK, we are not very good at wearing it due to what we see as the apparent grey cloud cover we have so many days! We should, however, be looking at wearing sunscreen on a regular basis as the sun is the worst anti-ageing product of all! My skin is very sensitive and likely to break out if I use the wrong sunscreens on it hence I do spend money on a good one and the one that I am loving at the moment is ‘Radical Skin Perfecting Screen’ which has a SPF of 30. What I love about this product is not just that it has protection against the UVA and UVB rays (really important), it’s the fact that it is a 3 in 1 really, – protecting, perfecting your skin and priming.

radical skincare

Now I always love a product that does more than one task at a time (must be the multi-tasking woman in me) and this one has beautiful light deflecting properties, helping to blur small wrinkles (nothing will sort the big wrinkles out!) and some primer elements which means that it helps to provide a make up base that will last all day long which is what I want. Perhaps again one of the most important things for my skin is that it is non chemical. This cream is super light and goes on my skin beautifully, feels gorgeous that I don’t know I have it on, and best of all doesn’t clog my pores like a lot of sunscreens do. For me as well, I like the fact that it gives you a matt finish. The other nice thing is it’s a cute size that will fit in your handbag. Bonus. Again though, it is pretty expensive, but down to the potent anti-oxidants it contains.

Now let’s move onto a very important task that a lot of us get up to on our legs – shaving! One of my friends, convinced me a while ago to use a man’s razor as it would be stronger, better and last longer and that is kind of what I had got used to, but the down side to all of this was coming out of the shower and sometimes having that little cut around the ankles (oh how sore!). Bring on a few days away and I purchase the Venus Snap Razor and give that a try in the shower and OMG what a difference from the previous men’s one.

venus snap razor

This cute little travel razor comes in its own case which keeps it tucked away meaning I don’t cut my finger every time I delve in my bathroom bag for creams and it also has a vent in it meaning it dries out and you are not left with that sticky residue like on a lot of razors. It’s got a small mini handle which you can hold comfortably and has a cartridge with 5 blades which give the most beautiful close shave … and best of all … no nicks. This one has a lovely moisturising feel after the shave but you can get ones which exfoliate as well, which would be a really good one to try occasionally and you can interchange the blades. There is no need for any shaving gel and your legs feel super moisturised and soft without even putting moisturiser on them. This one’s a winner for me and I definitely won’t be going back to the men’s one haha.

sanctuary air whipped

Lastly, to add to that super smooth feel which we are all looking for and to help with all kinds of circulation, it’s a well known fact that we need to exfoliate regularly. Just give it a go and see the difference on those annoying little bobbly bits on your arms!! Sanctuary’s Air Whipped Souffle Scrub is the one that I have tried this week and imagine Heaven in a Tub! That’s close to what it is as you treat your body to a decadent dessert! The fluffy souffle texture is inspired by cup cake icing and you apply this to wet skin in the shower and it really gives you a lovely smooth, soft and polished scrub. It’s full of shea butter, almond oil, mango and little jojoba beads which means it doesn’t just exfoliate but it also massively moisturises you as well. At £8 for the tub it won’t cost you the earth.

So that’s it for this week’s finds. Have you tried the new Venus Snap Razor yet? Let me know what you thought?

Lots of love as always

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to this week’s blog, sorry it’s a bit late up today, but it has been a bit of a crazy week in lots of ways. This week finds us enjoying some gorgeous Summer weather in between the rain showers (oh well helps the garden grow!) Becky, Holly and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend a wedding in the Cotswolds for one of their dear friends from growing up who we have known since he was about 4 so it was such a fun day and a chance to get glammed up and get emotional (got the waterproof mascara on!) as they walked down the aisle. I just love Weddings with family and friends together to celebrate such a happy event. Little photo from it to show you what we all wore – Becky was one of the bridesmaids too. We had an amazing time and danced the night away. Not too sore a head in the morning!… Click below to continue reading.

Hello Lovelies

And welcome to another Friday, comes round so quickly doesn’t it and this week sees me still struggling a bit with hay fever, as I expect so many of you probably have as well. I just love the summer but living in the country does give me a few problems! I have been busy puppy sitting whilst Becky and Holly are away and have been trying to train them a little – we have got to”Sit” and “Wait” – a long way to go! I love them so much but have decided my life is too busy at the moment to ever have my own dog. It’s just nice having them occasionally although I think Bee and Penelope have settled in well (spoilt pups comes to mind haha).

Welcome to this week’s blog and into the month of June already! I celebrated my third wedding anniversary and went up to the lovely city of Chester for a night in beautiful hotel called Edgar House which sits in the old city walls by the side of the river Dee.

It’s a boutique hotel run by an amazing couple and gets 5 stars on Trip Advisor. Only one night away but you feel like you have been away for a few days don’t you? It’s so good to get away from everyday life occasionally!.

Hello Lovelies

Welcome to my Friday blog and as I commence this blog each week I always have that slight feeling that my week will have been dull and boring and nothing to talk about to you all ….. but yet again, another busy week with lots happening … some good and some bad as we all must have in life.

It started with the lovely event of my birthday and funnily enough …. each year I think my husband is going to buy me a puppy and this year was no exception … so I was lying awake the night before my birthday thinking with slight anticipation that he would this year. It took me quite a while to get off to sleep and I awoke the next morning and when he gave me my presents one was a wheeley suitcase and I did have to ask him if the puppy was inside … definitely not! I also got a beautiful new computer on which to write my blog etc as my other was many years old and beginning to slow massively with all the photos etc that I had on it. Definitely no puppy though … he seems to think that because my daughters have new puppies then that will keep me happy…. which of course they do but I am sure that even next year I will have the same thought the night before. Each year your birthday comes round and each year you say as you get older that you are not that fussed about birthdays … but then your friends and family spoil you and give you gorgeous presents and surprises and you quickly realise that actually you love birthdays! I was lucky enough to go for meals with friends and then on my birthday a great chinese meal with family.

Hello Everyone and welcome to this week’s blog!
I thought I would just start off with a little review of my Valentine’s Day last Saturday … you know by now what a romantic I am …. Well the day started beautifully with my husband making me my favourite breakfast and then he gave me a lovely card and present then started apologising that my flowers hadn’t arrived. Apparently he had requested them to be delivered before 9.00am (he is a very early bird!) and he had everything organised …. But oh dear …. No flowers had arrived and you could see he wasn’t happy …… an hour later a text came to my phone that the courier was about 40 minutes away …. I knew that the poor delivery man was not going to get a very welcome reception as he was late. The poor man was probably going to all his deliveries getting abuse from men who had paid for early deliveries. Anyway, they arrived … and they were truly beautiful and my husband has to take up his complaint with the delivery company. It didn’t put a damper on our happy day though and we had a beautiful meal together in a gorgeous restaurant surrounded by all sorts of couples and family groups too – all out celebrating. Beautiful. I hope you all had fun on Valentines Day as well.

It’s Friday again already and the end of another week! Last week my blog was about my back pain and I am afraid that I have spent another week not able to do much and I wanted to thank all the lovely people who have commented and sent their love and suggestions for me which has really helped me to stay positive too through it.

Anyway I finally went for an MRI scan today – my husband drove me as I still can’t drive with the pain. I have had an MRI scan in the past and had been very nervous about the whole procedure because I suffer from claustrophobia but this time I was a lot calmer with knowing what to expect and as I lay down on the section of the scanner that moves you into the MRI I tried to regulate my breathing and anyone that has had an MRI scan will know they give you a buzzer in your left hand to press if you feel uncomfortable at any time. Anyway, they put the buzzer in my hand, but me being the nervous person that I am with scans, I had to test the buzzer, didn’t I just to check that it worked (I am sure they are used to people like me!) The operator was really kind and did say that if ever I had to have any other part of me scanned I could always go to my doctor for some kind of relaxing tablet! The whole process would they say take about 12 mins but it felt way longer than that and when he said it was finished I was so tempted to shout “I am a celebrity GET ME OUT OF HERE!” Phew! I was out and could open my eyes. So the results will be in a few days and I can actually see what the problem is and hopefully it won’t be too serious.
